"Flirtation can be a liberating form of play, a game with suspense and ambiguities..."- Psychology Today

Chapter 2

The next school day went by in a blur, as many days in the middle of the semester do for high school seniors. Before Darcy knew it, it was time once again, to meet with her new found partner. As Darcy approached her seat, she couldn't help but notice that James was once again taking the liberty of checking her out. She decided not to call him out on it though, not yet.

"What took you so long?", James greeted with a teasing smile,"I was beginning to think that you weren't going to show."

"What, and leave you here all by your lonesome? Wouldn't dream of it.", Darcy replied sarcastically while a sweet smile played across her face.

James was about to offer a retort but was cut off by the teacher making an announcement. "Alright students, today we are going to talk about Nature vs. Nurture, and how it influences the type of people that you are attracted to. Now I want you to list the first couple of things that attract you to someone, and share them with the person sitting next to you," their stout psychology teacher bellowed. Darcy could almost swear that she saw him throw a pointed look over at her and James before finishing his statement. She could already see a menacing smirk spread across James' face out of the corner of her eye.

"Ladies first," James said, pretending to bow from his seat and grinning like a crocodile. Darcy smiled softly, she knew that he would play that card, luckily she also knew how to counter it. "Wow, a true gentleman, who would have thought," she teased gently, pretending to be shocked. "Just like my Momma taught me," replied James, beaming and  unknowingly falling right into Darcy's trap. "Then I'm also sure that your Momma taught you that a gentleman obliges to a lady's requests, as long as they are within in reason," stated Darcy slyly, with a smirk playing across her lips,"and this lady requests you to go first." With that James couldn't help but let a small chuckle escape his lips.

"You win, I'll go first," he replied, his blue-green eyes twinkling with mischief. He drew in a quick breath, quickly scanned her up and down and began his list."Well, I like nice girls, who have beautiful hair, a good personality, and can always keep me on my toes," he stated, making sure to say each word  slowly, while looking deeply into her eyes. Darcy had to try her hardest to fight off the bright pink blush that was itching to spread across her cheeks. "Do not let him win. Do not let him win!" She chanted to herself over and over again inside of her head. "Your turn now," he leered, smirking triumphantly. "Well....umm....," Darcy cleared her throat," I would have to say I'm attracted to..."

"ALRIGHT STUDENTS! Settle down, now that you've had some time to discuss, we are going to return to our lecture, please take out your notes from yesterday," announced their teacher.

"You did that on purpose!" James exclaimed. "Who me? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about James," Darcy stated with a tone of false innocence, fluttering her eyelashes, and trying to hold back her laughter. James was about to say something in reply but Darcy quickly cut him off,"Shhh! I'm trying to learn!" she whispered with a light giggle. The pair then began taking notes like the rest of the class until the end of the period.

"Until we meet again Darcy," James cooed sweetly as he walked past her desk on his way out the door. "I'll be counting the seconds," Darcy teased, sending him one last smile from the doorway, before heading out of the classroom herself.
