After a week of living together, Reena knew she had no chance. There was no point in trying anymore. She could not escape, her father was powerless in front of him. Her fiance was dead. And nobody had a chance of winning against him.
Rocky had always made things easier for her. At first, she didn't know why. She didn't know what it was about him that made her feel protected, like no one dared to threaten her. After a few days, though, she started realizing that he was protecting her.  From him.  From everything.
She didn't know why he did it, or why she allowed him to do it. All she knew was that if he decided to hurt her, she would not hesitate to fight back. And it scared her.  She didn't have any friends. She had no family and no one cared. Nobody really knew her.  Nobody knew anything about her.
And she didn't want them to.
She didn't want to be known. She didn't want people to know her. She didn't want to be vulnerable. She didn't want to be weak.  She didn't want anyone to know who she really was.
"Hey Sona." A soft voice broke her train of thought, causing Reena to look up to see him standing in the doorway. His smile instantly brightened her mood, and she returned it.
"Hi," she replied, giving him a small smile and immediately regretting it. She could not afford to be vulnerable in front of him. She could not let her guard down.  That was dangerous, and she'd been taught from an early age to stay wary.
He took a seat on the chair opposite hers. "Are you busy tomorrow?"
She shook her head, "no, why?"
"Well..." his expression became thoughtful, as if he was having trouble finding the right words to say.  "I was thinking we could take a short trip somewhere nice today."
She frowned. "Where can you possibly take me?"
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, "I would treat you to lunch. Is that ok with you?"
She shrugged, "sure. Where will it be? Inside your goldmines ?"
"In my office."
Her eyes narrowed. "Does my father know where I am?"
"Yes."
He answered quickly, watching as her eyebrows furrowed at the question.
She sighed, leaning back in the chair. "Ok."
"Great!" He grinned widely before he sat back and folded his arms, leaning towards her. "I think we need to talk about this."
"About what?"
"Us."
She stared at him blankly. Why did he want to talk about that?
"We need to talk about us." He repeated, his expression serious.
"What's there to talk about?" she asked defensively, folding her arms across her chest.  Why couldn't he just leave it alone?
"You'r being selfish, Reena. You're hurting yourself because of your own stubbornness."
"Stop it," she said softly, taking a deep breath to control her temper.
He shook his head. "I won't. This is the only way I can make sure you're safe."
She scoffed, "you think I am safe here? Hah! I am the most at risk with you. Every night I am scared that you will come and claim me".
He frowned. "So what if I'm going to kill your father?"
"What?!" Her eyes widened.
"That's why you're afraid of me? Because I might kill your father?"
She hesitated for a moment and looked down at the floor. "It doesn't matter whether you kill him or not," she whispered finally.
He smiled at her sadly, his expression filled with pity, "you really are a stupid little girl."
She looked up at him sharply, "what did you just call me?"
He blinked at her for a second. "What?"
"You said, 'you're a stupid little girl'", she repeated.
He laughed out loud, the sound filling her ears with a strange mixture of amusement and sadness. She stared at him, confused by his reaction. What was wrong with him?!
"Sona," he began, still smiling lightly. "I wouldn't kill your father. Don't be silly. Besides, I wouldn't kill the grandfather of my future children, I don't want them to grow up without the affection of parents and grandparents ." He reached out and took her hand, interlacing his fingers with hers.
She glanced up, watching as his face softened, the corner of his mouth tilting upwards.
"I know how you much you care for me, even a cut on my finger ," he said, caressing her cheek with the tip of his finger, "disturbs your heart", he lifted her face up with his fingers beneath her chin.
"So," he continued, placing a kiss on her forehead, "why don't you go back to sleep? Everything's gonna be alright" he smiled, kissing the tip of her nose.
Reena nodded slowly, closing her eyes.
"Goodnight Sona". He smiled again.
"Goodnight Rocky".
