Roxie ran her fingers through the strings on her guitar, trying to find the right beat. She had a concert in a couple of days and she wanted to get her songs right. "Let's see," she murmured, trying to find the right note. She currently resided inside her small apartment as she practiced. The white walls in her living room were covered in posters of poison type Pokémon as papers full of song lyrics were scattered across the floor. She finally got the groove going and continued strumming along. She shook her head up and down as she began singing.
You're a good singer, an unknown voice told Roxie.
Roxie's eyes snapped open, looking around to find the source of the voice. "What the?" she wondered.
Look down, the voice spoke again. Roxie did so and saw a small Pokémon floating by her feet. The Pokémon was light purple with a vaguely humanoid appearance. It had green eyes with yellow sclera, a yellow ring marking on its forehead, a small, pink dot under each eye, and dark pink hair tied into a short ponytail. On either side of its head was a dark gray horn that curved slightly upward. Its body had a dark pink, V-shaped marking on the chest and a small, golden spike on each shoulder. Its arms were not attached to its body and instead floated next to it; each arm had a small golden spike similar to those on its shoulders. It had mitten-like hands and dark pink rings around each wrist. In place of legs, it had a wispy tail. Finally, it had three gold rings: one large one around its lower body and one hanging freely on each of its horns.
Roxie raised an eyebrow. "Woah," she murmured, her eyes turning starry due to its cute appearance and demeanor. "Who are you?"
You're not scared of me? the Pokémon questioned worriedly.
"I don't have a reason to be," Roxie replied with a shrug. "I just want to know who you are and how you're talking to me."
I am Hoopa! the Pokémon exclaimed, waving its arms excitedly in the air. And I'm talking to you thanks to telepathy. Pretty convenient, huh?
"Yeah," Roxie admitted. She had heard about Pokémon that could speak to humans, but she never imagined she'd ever meet one. "You're one of those Legendary Pokémon, right?"
Mythical, actually, Hoopa corrected her.
"Oh," Roxie murmured. "That's... less impressive."
Hoopa put on a pouty face. Well, Sooorrrry! it exclaimed in an annoyed tone, placing its knuckles to its hips. It's not like I got to choose!
"Okay then," Roxie murmured. "So what do you do? Are you a poison type?" Her eyes stared excitedly into Hoopa's, hoping for a yes.
Hoopa shook its head. No. I'm psychic and ghost, but I can learn the move Toxic.
Roxie shrugged. "Eh, close enough. So what's your deal?"
Hoopa tilted its head in confusion. What do you mean?
"You said you're a Mythical Pokémon," Roxie pointed out as she bent down on one knee to make the conversation easier. "You've got to do something cool."
I can open portals that lead to other locations and dimensions! Hoopa exclaimed. Want to see?
Roxie grinned. "Really? That sounds awesome." She rubbed her hands together mischievously. "Imagine all the pranks we can pull off with that," she said excitedly.
That's what I had in mind! Hoopa stated happily, flying around in anticipation. I've seen a lot of your pranks, Roxie! You seem pretty funny!
"Wait... how long have you been watching me?" she questioned, slightly disturbed by this new information.
Hoopa paused and sweated nervously. </i>Uh... days... weeks... months...</i> it conceded. Sorry I didn't say sooner.
"That's... a bit weird..." Roxie pointed out, slightly unnerved by how this conversation was unfolding.
I get really nervous around people. I can make it up to you! Hoopa assured her, waving its hands worriedly. You and I can prank some people!
Roxie gave a half-hearted nod. "Okay. What do you got in mind?"
How about Rosa? Hoopa suggested.
Roxie mischievously rubbed her chin. "Good choice. She's always a fun candidate." A grin curled onto her lips. "Can you teleport us to where she is?"
Hoopa nodded. You got it! it replied eagerly.
"Swanna, use Air Slash!" Skyla commanded. The redheaded gym leader held out her watching her Pokémon rapidly flap her wings in Serperior's direction. The Swanna possessed a long and yellow beak with black dere, several white feathery features adorning her head. The more rounded of the features were to the sides of her head, and the more pointed feature was atop. Swanna also possessed a long, curving neck. Two light-blue feathery features, similar to those on the sides of Swanna's head, were present on Swanna's underside, and Swanna's large wings were positioned so that they curve away from her body. Finally, Swanna's legs were small and her webbed feet were dark.
Skyla herself had blue eyes and dark red hair, with a light accessory resembling a propellor and a bun. Her outfit consisted of a long-sleeved light blue crop top, bulky dark blue gloves, light blue short-shorts, dark blue boots, a dark blue holster attached on her right thigh, and dark blue straps with white buckles that wrapped around her stomach and hips. At the moment, Rosa was rechallenging her to improve her skills for her rematch with Iris.
Rosa simply grinned as she watched the blades of air approaching her Serperior. "Superior, use Dragon Tail on the ground!" she instructed, holding out her hand. Serperior nodded and waited as her tail began to glow, storing her power while the attack approached her. When the power had fully charged up, Serperior slammed her tail against the ground and created a flurry of dust and rocks headed in Swanna's direction. The dust enveloped the arena of Skyla's gym, making Skyla cough as she struggled to see her surroundings.
"Ack!" Rosa could hear Skyla scream, making the trainer wonder what had happened. When the dust finally cleared, Rosa's jaw dropped when she saw what had occurred. An orange fabric had engulfed Skyla's head and blanketed her eyes, forcing her to strain her head back.
"Wow, that's pretty nerdy," Roxie observed the pattern from behind: orange with little Swannas printed on the fabric. Swanna and Serperior stared in confusion, both baffled by what was going on.
"Ah!" Skyla screamed angrily, waving her fists in the air. Her bottom was being squashed by the pressure of the fabric rubbing against her. Roxie's snickers made Skyla's cheeks redder than her own hair. She yanked off the fabric, letting the waistband droop past her knees. "Ugh," she groaned through gritted teeth, her face overflowing with a combination of embarrassment and rage. "Stop laughing!" Skyla shouted, pulling her arms out of the wedgie. "You are such a brat, Roxie!" She had known Roxie for quite a while and the two had bashed heads on more than a several occasions, with Roxie always coming out on top.
"And yet you keep falling for my wedgies," Roxie said smugly. She snapped her fingers, causing a portal to mysteriously appear below Skyla's feet. She screamed as she fell down the hole, disappearing into the void.
"Where did she go?" Rosa asked worriedly, biting her fingernails.
Roxie pointed her right index finger in Rosa's direction. "Same place you're going," she stated with a smirk. The portal disappeared and reappeared underneath Rosa's feet, making her fall through the hole as well. She did not even have enough time to scream before she was sucked up by the portal, which promptly closed after she made her exit.
Wow, that was quick! Hoopa observed, flying down from the ceiling.
"Nobody does it better than I do," Roxie bragged, placing a boastful left hand to her chest. "Got anybody else in mind?"
I know of one person I'm friends with! Hoopa stated in anticipation.
Roxie raised an eyebrow. "Friends?" she questioned.
Someone I've... been following... Hoopa conceded. You're going to love her. I promise!
In another world Rosa yelped as she found herself caught on a tree branch of a medium-sized tree. "Why?" Rosa whimpered, feeling her plain pink undergarments painfully riding up her back. She looked to her right, seeing Skyla on another tree branch while her face matched her hair color.
"What... is wrong with Roxie?" Skyla murmured, struggling to comprehend what had just happened. She noticed that her holster that kept her Poké Balls had disappeared and the same to Rosa's black purse. "She... took... our... Pokémon..." she realized, her eyes widening in terror.
"I... hate... her..." Rosa grumbled, attempting to maintain her composure. She put on a smile, hoping to block out the pain. "Maybe we can play a game to kill the time," she suggested optimistically.
Skyla sighed. "It's not like we have anything better to do," she stated, making the attempt to regain her voice proper. "Maybe... we could play... Go Magikarp?" she suggested.
"We don't have any cards..." Rosa murmured, hanging her head in shame.
"Oh..." Skyla murmured.
Bea placed her knuckles together as she placed her bare feet together. She took a deep breath and calmly breathed out. She meditated in a large grassland, listening to the calm breeze. Her heart followed the breeze, mentally tracking the direction of the wind. She became one with the wind, able to keep moving forward without anything holding her back.
"Why are you napping out here?" a voice questioned.
Bea nearly fell over in surprise. "What the?" she questioned, losing her concentration. "Who are you?" she questioned, looking up to Roxie. At present, the muscular, brown-skinned woman with short grey hair wore an orange tank top, grey sweatpants, and a black-and-orange headband. Bea raised an eyebrow, studying Roxie's aura. She sensed a toxic presence from the other woman, making her wonder what white-haired woman wanted.
"Name's Roxie," the other woman answered confidently, placing her hands to her hips. "I was travelling around this route and I saw you napping."
Bea's left eye twitched angrilly. "I'm not napping. I'm meditating," she insisted, attempting to keep her cool. "There's a difference."
"Pretty sure you were napping," Roxie said smugly.
Bea groaned. "What do you want?" she asked bitterly, standing up.
"Just wanted to see if there were any cool poison types around," Roxie explained casually. She sauntered behind Bea and noticed a black material peeking above Bea's sweatpants. A grin curled onto Roxie's lips as she made her move.
"Eep!" Bea yelped, feeling a certain fabric slither up her backside at an alarming rate. She craned her neck to see a snickering Roxie with a fistful of cotton in her hands. "What are you doing?" she demanded as she squeaked.
"What, you've never gotten a wedgie before?" Roxie asked with a giggle.
"Yes, and they hurt!" Bea shouted, memories of her friend Nessa pulling the same trick on her resurfacing. She wrapped her fingers tightly around Roxie's left arm and slammed the prankster harshly into the ground.
"Ow..." Roxie murmured, barely able to register the pain. "You're strong..."
"I have to be," Bea replied, crossing her arms. "It's how I maintain my composure," she spoke solemnly, watching the whimpering Roxie pick herself up.
"Yeesh. So serious," Roxie murmured, laughing at Bea's scowl. "Why not a smile every once in a while?" she suggested, using her index fingers to give herself an extra large grin.
"Better to take things seriously than to let everything be a joke," Bea retorted, stuffing her undergarments back into her pants.
"You need to take a chill pill," Roxie advised. "Don't get your panties in a twist."
"Screw this," Bea said angrily, stomping past Roxie.
"Ack!" Roxie yelped, feeling a white cotton zip up her back. "Stop that!" she barked, making Bea laugh for the first time.
"You can dish it out, but you can't take it, huh?" Bea observed, tightening her grip on Roxie's waistband. She yanked the fabric up to Roxie's neck, causing the rock star to yell even louder. Using her left hand, Bea pulled Roxie's head back and prepared for the waistband to make its landing. The waistband crawled past Roxie's forehead, blanketing her vision and sneaking past her eyes before making its home below her nose. Bea released her grip, chuckling while watching Roxie waddle around. Roxie's neck strained back as she struggled to walk around. Although she occasionally got wedgies, she had never received one with as much force as Bea had provided. Her current wedgie stung her bottom more than a Beedrill ever could. "Consider yourself lucky I didn't pull any farther," Bea stated sternly before walking away, leaving Roxie to her fate.
Roxie continued waddling around until Hoopa flew up to her. The Pokémon had been hiding behind a nearby tree, quietly laughing at the entire situation. That was pretty fun! Hoopa exclaimed, helping Roxie pull off the fabric.
Roxie gasped as she rubbed her sore posterior while the fabric drooped past her waist. "Yeah, except for that atomic Bea gave me," she murmured between her chuckles. "That lady is strong!"
No kidding! Hoopa agreed. She wrestles with her Pokémon!
"Yeesh," Roxie stated. "That is tough." She noticed a small, quadrupedal, purple, lizard-like Pokémon crawling by on her left.. It had a lightning bolt-like protrusion on its forehead, along with four conical spikes surrounding its head. It possessed violet eyes with black pupils and white scleras. Its cheeks were marked with a very pale lavender, almost white, spot on each side. "What's that Pokémon?" Roxie asked, excited by its purple color scheme. "Is it a poison type?!"
Yep! Hoopa answered. That one's called Toxel. It's only native in the Galar region and it's poison and electric type.
Roxie grinned, pulling out a Poké Ball. "I'm going to catch it," she said in anticipation.
Before you do, I think there's one more prank we can pull off today, Hoopa suggested.
Roxie raised an eyebrow. "What do you got in mind?" Without any warning, she began falling, traveling several feet before getting caught on something. "Owie," she murmured, realizing what was happening. She had been trapped on the same tree branch Rosa and Skyla had caught onto earlier. "Whyyyyy?" she whimpered, holding onto her lap. She could feel the cotton squashing her bottom like a hydraulic press. She did not think she had claustrophobia, at least not until she had gotten a hanging wedgie. The fabric rode up her back tightly, giving her very little room to breathe. She craned her neck to see that the leg holes had been stretched to kingdom come and they were nowhere near close to ripping. "This... isn't... funny..." Roxie said through gritted teeth, reaching out to smack Hoopa on the head.
The Pokémon easily dodged her attacks. It is to me, the Pokémon said with a snicker. Out of nowhere, it pulled out a Poké Ball. And don't think you'll be putting me in anytime soon.
"Just... let... me... down..." Roxie demanded angrily, her face turning a boiling red.
I think I'll come back in an hour, Hoopa replied, placing an amused left index finger to its chin and nearly causing a blood vessel to burst inside Roxie. I need to get something to eat. The Pokémon cheerfully flew away, leaving Roxie to her fate.
"Get back here!" Roxie yelled, angrily waving her fists in the fair. She kept kicking and shouting, hoping her Pokémon would return to save her. Eventually, she gave up. She hung there for a long time like a wobbly Christmas ornament, never coming close to falling off. She craned her neck to see two confused faces staring back at her. "What?" Roxie asked gruffly.
"Who was that?" Skyla questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"I've never seen that Pokémon before," Rosa murmured.
"Its name is Hoopa," Roxie grunted. "And it was helping me prank you guys today."
"Then why did it prank you?" Skyla wondered.
"Eh, it's been a long day," Roxie murmured, hoping that excuse would be believed. She began whistling, hoping to kill the time as she was sweating nervously.
"It stopped listening to you, didn't it?" Skyla guessed.
"No," Roxie whispered, her face turning red as she tried to look away.
Skyla chuckled. "I guess you didn't have enough badges," she joked, making Rosa giggle.
"Shut up!" Roxie snapped. She let out a sigh as she waited a few minutes before speaking once more. "So what have you guys been doing?"
"Waiting for somebody to show up," Rosa replied. "You have our Poké Balls. Use one of them so we can get down."
"About that..." Roxie said nervously. "I may have left that back in the gym..."
"You cannot be serious..." Skyla stated, flabbergasted at the situation. "Are you that stupid?"
"Well, I didn't think I'd need them!" Roxie retorted.
Rosa groaned. "Roxie, you're not helping!" she shouted, throwing her arms into the air.
"Hey, you need some help?" a friendly voice called to her.
Roxie looked to her left, seeing Bea looking up to her. The fighting type gym leader had her hands in her pockets and a calm look in her face. "Hey..." she greeted nervously, giving Bea a weak wave using her left hand. "Do you mind helping us down?"
"Who is she?" Rosa questioned.
"Who cares? She can help us," Skyla replied, annoyed by the fabric continuing to climb up her bottom.
Bea's stomach growled. "Do you got any food on you?"
Roxie raised an eyebrow. "Why would I give you food?"
"Do you want to get down?" Bea replied, a small grin forming on her lips.
"Just do it, Roxie!" Rosa barked at the white-haired woman.
"Please!" Skyla agreed, equally as angry.
"Ugh," Roxie groaned. "I've got a chocolate bar on me if you can get us down."
Bea's grin widened upon hearing that offer. "You got it," she said confidently, her eyes becoming starry at the prospect. She gripped Roxie's legs tightly and used all her might to pull her down.
Roxie's eyes snapped open as her cheeks turned a rosy red. "Wait, I didn't mean like that!" she shouted, but it was too late. Bea ripped her down from the branch, leaving a certain fabric hanging in her place. Roxie collapsed on Bea, crushing the fighting type gym leader.
"I probably could have thought that out better," Bea admitted, struggling to breathe. She pushed Roxie off her and let out a huff. "You're heavier than you look."
"Ow," Roxie murmured, picking herself up off Bea. "Sorry," she apologized before she turned her head. She stared at the cotton that flapped in the wind not unlike a flag. "Come on," she said weakly. "I liked that pair."
"Ha!" Skyla laughed at Roxie, infuriating the latter even further.
"Sorry," Bea apologized.
"You going to help us down?" Rosa asked, chuckling nervously.
Bea nodded as she turned to Roxie. "Give me a leg up," she instructed.
Roxie raised an eyebrow. "Why?" she asked.
"Just do it," Bea ordered, becoming vexed by Roxie's attitude.
Roxie groaned, placing her hands together for Bea. "Fine."
Bea leaped off Roxie's hands, sending her into the air. With a single chop to each branch, she separated Rosa and Skyla's attachment to the tree. She held out her arms, catching the two and placing them gently on the ground. "Done and done," she stated before she turned to Roxie and tapped her fingers together nervously. "So... are you going to give me that chocolate bar?"
Roxie sighed, looking behind her and looking at the remains of the clothing she normally took comfort in. "Fine," she muttered, pulling from her left pocket a chocolate bar covered in a blue wrapper.
"Thank you," Bea said happily, unwrapping her prize and munching down on the chocolate bar.
"Where even are we?" Skyla questioned, looking around to find out the identity of their location.
"I don't know," Rosa said with a shrug. "Maybe somebody in town will know." She and Skyla began walking off, at least until Skyla punched Roxie in the back of her right shoulder.
"Ow," Roxie grumbled, holding onto her injured arm. "What was that for?"
"Don't ever do that again," Skyla demanded bitterly before walking away with Rosa.
Roxie sighed as she returned her gaze to Bea. "Hmm," Bea murmured, completely enamoured by the sweet, sugar rush that enveloped her system. "It's so good!" she exclaimed, taking another bite.
Roxie raised an eyebrow. She could not believe Bea could ever be so chipper. "You're pretty emotional about a chocolate bar," she observed.
Bea paused, hiding her chocolate bar behind her back in embarrassment. "I don't really have sweets much..." she murmured. "I try to discipline myself."
"I see that," Roxie snarked. "Imagine what you'll do with hot fudge."
Bea's eyes widened in anticipation. "Do you have any?" she questioned, licking her lips.
Roxie chuckled. "Nah," she said, shaking her head. "You act tough, but you're really a big softie," she spoke with a chuckle.
Bea rubbed her elbows nervously, her cheeks flushing in embarrassment. She looked to her left, hoping to change the topic of the discussion. "Hey, how did you all get stuck?" she asked, searching the entire perimeter of her vision for the culprit.
"My Hoopa left me to hang there," Roxie muttered, crossing her arms in a huff.
"You have a Hoopa?" Bea questioned. "That's a Mythical Pokémon! How'd you get one?"
"It just appeared," Roxie stated with a shrug. "It was helping me prank people all day and then it pranked me." Bea placed her left hand over her lips, attempting to contain her giggles. "It's not funny!" Roxie shouted, startling Bea.
"You... don't get pranked much, do you?" Bea guessed.
"No," Roxie admitted, crossing her arms even tighter. "I'm usually pranking others."
"I can tell," Bea observed. "I can't imagine that attitude of yours gets you a lot of friends."
"Hey!" Roxie snapped. "I've got friends! I've got Iris and... uh..." All the confidence leaked from her body as she struggled to form words. It then hit her. Over the years, she had built up a reputation of annoying others. The only people who liked her, besides her band members, were Iris and her grandfather, Drayden. "Well, it's not like your fighting attitude gives you a lot of friends, either!"
Bea sighed. "Touché," she conceded. She held her arms behind her back, struggling to find the right words. "Will... you... be my friend?" she asked nervously.
Roxie sighed, considering the offer. "I suppose... I can."
Bea smiled, holding out her hand. "Thank you."
Roxie took the hand and shook it firmly. "You're welcome."
