The massive high school towers over all the other buildings in this bustling urban area. It's like the school stands at the center of the entire world.

Hope's Peak Academy.

It brings in top students from every field imaginable. A government-funded school of privilege.

They say if you come here and manage to graduate, you'll be set for life.

With hundreds of years or tradition, it sends the cream of the crop into the workforce every year. It was built to raise Hope in the nation's future. Which makes Hope's Peak a pretty fitting name.

There are two things you need to attend this school. One, you have to already be attending high school. Two, you have to be the very best at what you do.

No ordinary student could enroll here. The only way in is if you've been scouted by the school itself and standing there at the gate of the ultimate school filled with the ultimate students...

Was me.

Well actually, not just me. There was another boy at the gates.

Anyways, my name is [Name]. I'm known as the Ultimate Hider. It might sound stupid because frankly, I think it is. I mean, what kind of weird ass title is "Hider". Some people even said I could "disappear"? Seriously?

[?]: "I still can't believe I'm standing here. I wonder if someone like me could survive in a place like this.."

[Name]: "Don't get too worked up about it, I'm sure you'll be just fine."

The boy jumped, obviously not expecting to get a reply.

[?]: "I'm sorry! Was I talking out loud?"

[Name]: "Well if you didn't then I wouldn't have replied, now would I?"

I mentally slapped myself. Try not to be so rude to the first person you meet dummy.

[?]: "Sorry, I guess I'm just nervous that's all,"

It was normal to be nervous, I would be lying if I said I wasn't. I mean, this is the famous school where people's hopes and dreams come to life or whatever. But to be honest I wasn't really feeling any hope right now.

[?]: "I mean, you look so young! Practically a child, but yet you still got accepted. It just kind of reminds me how completely ordinary I am"

I'm getting Y/n vibes.

I heard about a drawing where they pick one name out of who knows how many and that lucky name is the lucky person that gets to attend the high school without having an Ultimate. I guess this guy must be that lucky student.

[?]: "I guess I should introduce myself, I'm Makoto Naegi! The Ultimate Lucky Student!"

Kinda figured that out already.

[Name]: I'm [First Name] [Last Name]

I finally turned my head to look at him. Makoto had spiky, desaturated brown hair with a prominent ahoge, and washed-out hazel eyes. He was wearing black jeans, a zipped-up dull green hoodie with a red stripe along the zipper, an open black jacket with gold buttons, and red sneakers with white toes.

He smiled.

[Makoto]: "Nice to meet you [Name]! Should we go inside now?"

I shrugged my shoulders and turned back to the school.

[Name]: "We're still a lot early though. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to be the first ones in.

Together we both took our first steps into the main hall-

Or that's what we thought.

Because before we knew it we both fell into black darkness.

At that point, I had finally realized this school wasn't made to fill people with hope. It was made to fill people's minds with nothing but Ultimate Despair.
