November 1997
"Distinguish between wiggenweld potion and dittany?" I reread the question over and over and the words in my thick potions book were starting to blur. I shut the book causing a few people around me to flinch. I got up from the couch needing some fresh air and I saw Mattheo follow behind me. Brilliant.
"Mat you've annoyed me enough today." I whisper-yelled, hoping to not disturb everyone in the common room who were working on the potions essay Professor Snape kindly set that was due Monday. Which was tomorrow! Knowing us, we all hadn't started it yet. So we set a house study session for today in the common room. It would mean that the Gryffindors in our potions class wouldn't be able to study with us, but Slytherins have always been excluded from the other houses. Then they wonder why we're rude to everyone. Snape get's it.
"What have I done now?" He swooshed in front of me blocking me from leaving the passage that lead to our common room.
"Nothing, now go away." He rolled his eyes as I pushed passed him.
"Come on, just admit it." I stopped walking and turned to stare at him dead in the eye.
"I do not - and this will be the last time I am saying this - have feelings for DRACO!" He looked as though he was about to burst out laughing and he did which made me laugh. I couldn't be mad at him forever, regardless that he told everyone today in potions that I smelt Draco in the Amortentia potion. Which I didn't by the way.
Mat and I have been best friends since our first year when I tripped over him on the Hogwarts Express. He had helped me up and realised I was crying (Draco had been teasing me - as always) and he made me feel better by buying me lollies from the cart. Everyone had been scared of him (they still are) considering who his father is, but I was the only one who didn't care. Now we're in our sixth year and he has grown to be a narcissistic asshole.
"Oh Davina I love when you scream my name."
Draco, whom I've known forever - we live across from each other - came up behind me and put his arm around me and pulled my long hair out of the way.
"Hello," I said, relieved he was here before I killed Mattheo. I took a desperate tone and pouted, "I need help finishing my essay."
"It's fine, I've already finished it for you. I saw you struggling, I thought you were going to snap your quill."
"Thank you Draco."
"No worries."
"Alright, I left to go get some air so if you'll excuse me." I turned and headed out of the dungeons, glad that neither of them were following me. I just felt like a walk and it was about to get dark so I hurried up to the courtyard. I curled myself in my leather jacket wishing I had at least put on gloves. I stepped in the middle of the courtyard and stared up at the sky. Something about Sundays was always bittersweet. We got to relax but there was school the next day.
I smiled as I made pictures with the clouds.
"Why is it that I always seem to bump into you when I'm angry?"
"And why are you angry this time Michael?"
"Well I'm not sure if you heard but Ravenclaw lost to Hufflepuff yesterday which kicks us out of the running for the Quidditch cup."
"No I missed it, sorry. I think that's the first game I've missed a game this season."
"No it's okay, I actually had fallen off my broom so I would've preferred you hadn't seen that." I giggled and he smiled.
"Wait, that means we have to beat Hufflepuff next week or they win the cup. I have to focus during practice, got to keep up my chaser reputation."
"I am so happy for you," he said sarcastically. Michael Corner was Ravenclaws heartthrobs' best friend, so he was always with someone. He was kind of a player and he was handsome, but not compared to blonde hair, blue-eyed Anthony, who was the actual heartthrob.
