March 1998

I struggled to open my eyes and identify the noise that had woke me up. I looked over at Draco who was sleeping like a baby and then I was able to see what was making the noise. I jumped out of Draco's bed hopefully not waking him up and I ran over to Mat. He was tossing and turning and his chest was shiny as a layer of sweat coated his body.

"Mat, Mat wake up!" I whisper yelled. I gripped his muscly shoulders and shook him awake. But it didn't work, so I kneeled on his bed and cupped his face roughly.

"Mat, wake up, you're having a nightmare, it's me, Davina." I slapped his face now and his eyes shot open. Then all of a sudden he was hovering over me, huffing and puffing. I could hear his heart racing in the silent room as he held my hands down on the bed. He kept blinking as if he was still trying to escape from his nightmare. I could tell he still didn't know I was there, so I started to speak softly.

"Mat, it's me, Davina. This is real, you're not asleep anymore." His breathing slowed a little and then he made eye contact with me. Confusion immediately clouded his expression.

"Dav?" It was then that he noticed how he was on top of me and holding me down. His eyes widened and he got off me straight away and let go of my arms. I sat up and saw him find his balance on the floor.

"What happened?"

"I am so sorry, I didn't mean to- to do that." He sat back on his bed and lifted my arms where they were beginning to bruise; I couldn't even feel the pain of them yet. I looked up at him to see his eyes starting to glisten.

"Mat, what's wrong? What did you dream about?"

"It was nothing, just a nightmare. Did I wake you up?"

"I was already having a restless sleep and I heard you tossing and turning in your bed and then I heard you saying no repeatedly so I rushed over."

"Sorry."

"It's fine Mat, I'm okay, I know you didn't mean to do that. Just tell me what's wrong?"

"I'm fine. Go back to bed."

"I can't fall back asleep, and I know you're not going to sleep now."

"Just go." He looked down at me, almost pleading for me to get out of his bed.

"I can stay if you want. You don't have to tell me anything." He kept looking at me tensely and he was starting to annoy me as to why he didn't want me to stay. It was always normal for us to hang out like this, why is he being so weird.

"I just don't think it's a good idea." I was not leaving so instead of arguing I just leaned myself against his head board and pulled the covers over my legs. "Dav."

"No, I don't know what's wrong with you, no one will tell me and it's beginning to annoy me, so instead of you distancing yourself from me I am going to protect our relationship by ignoring your wish for me to go." I swear he actually laughed and finally gave up in arguing with me.

"You're amazing, you know that."

"I know." He smiled now and he crossed his arms over his still-bare chest. I noticed his muscles move as he did so and he followed my gaze. I swallowed as he looked down at me in a way that I didn't recognise and I looked away.

"So did Ana give you a hard time today?" I tried making conversation and I hoped he didn't notice that I already asked him the same question.

"Uh, kind of. Like I said before when you asked the first time, she was just being weird."

"So you really don't like her? Like at all."

"Um, no, I don't."

"That's unfortunate. You know she told me that she would find someone to sleep with by the end of the week. I thought it was funny."
