Day thirteen.
Two days before all hell broke lose. Two days before Grace snapped.
The food Raf and Seth had brought to them sat organized, thanks to Bo, in Josh's suitcase. She was starving but they only had so much to give out.
Kirin's flannel was wrapped tightly around her, the boys were throwing a frisbee that they had found in the bunker. They had asked multiple times if she wanted to play but she didn't feel like it.
She was too hungry, too tired. She didn't want to waste her energy on a game. But she was glad the boys were having fun.
With a grunt and sigh, Josh sat beside her. His bright smile made her want to scream but she forced it back and sent him her own smile. "You should really come hang out with us, Grace," he told her, gently bumping her shoulder.
"I'm too hungry," she told him. "Then eat," he reached in the suitcase and grabbed a can of spam and she shook her head. "I ate yesterday, we need to save it." "Grace, you ate yesterday morning. You have to eat," he told her, his smile replaced with a look of seriousness.
Grace shook her head again, "I don't want to take food that someone else might need." "You need it, Grace. We'd rather you eat then pass out," he pushed the spam into her arms and waited.
She picked it up gently, her hands shaking from the lack of blood sugar, "How about we share it?" Josh offered, "If you're worried about someone else starving then I'll share with you so you know I won't starve."
She smiled at him and nodded, opening the can of spam, using a plastic fork to scoop out its contents, shoveling them into her mouth with a sigh. Normally, she wasn't a spam lover but right now, it was the best thing she'd ever tasted.
The two siblings switched back and forth, each taking a bite until the can was scraped clean and Grace's energy had increased. She sighed and licked her lips, basking in the salty taste from the spam.
"Thank you," she told her brother who shrugged in reply, "You're my sister, I have to watch out for you." "I'm the oldest, technically I should be watching out for you," she smirked and he rolled his eyes, "You're older by 15 minutes." "Still older," she teased, bumping his shoulder.
Grace cringe as a hand came down on her head, messing up her hair as they ruffled it. She swatted the hand away and glared at the culprit, Kirin. "You missed a great game, Gracie."
