karkat has always been one for romance. this is an undeniable fact, an irrefutable truth, a universal constant, if you will. but karkat doesn't quite enjoy the prospect of romance when it involves a certain dude who's seated two seats away from him, shades on and common sense off, apparently.
'seems a bit inane to wear shades in buildings,' was karkat's first impression of dave. it only got worse from there.
'karkat,' terezi whispers from beside him. 'psst, hey!'
'what.' he gives her a pointed glare. not that she could see it anyway. maybe she could smell it? karkat still has no idea how her whole smell-vision schtick works.
'do you want to switch seats with me?' if she'd noticed the glare, she probably felt it grow in intensity.
'no,' he hissed, a bit too loudly. jade looked up from her seat and turned to give them a quick glance before returning to her homework. karkat slumps in his seat. 'why the fuck would i?' he adds in a hushed tone.
'uh, to sit with your boyfriend?'
behind her, rose lets out a quick snort before composing herself and burying deeper into her book. dave exhales loudly through his nose, which has karkat seeing red, because it's as if going out with karkat vantas was a joke that's thrown around. terezi notices this and gives him a quick nudge, 'just kidding,' she smiles.
a quick groan, then, 'well yeah, of course you are, since he's not my boyfriend.'
he hopes dave heard this.
