Then suddenly, her eyes were greeted with bright lights as she opened her eyes once again.
"Where am I..?" she whispered to herself.
"You're in my room." A familiar voice said. Mila turned her head to meet the person the voice had come from. It was Selene.
"Selene, wha-, what are you doing?" Mila asked.
"I know what happened. I came looking for you after because I ran off. I walked into your house like I always do and I found you, laying on the ground. I also saw your parents and called 9-1-1 right away. I haven't checked with the doctor yet, so I have no clue if they made it or not. I'm so sorry, Mila."
All Mila could do was look at him. She thought what happened was unbelievable. She didn't know what to say or do. Then Selene walked over to her and gave her a tight hug. One that he had never given before. I was warm and comforting. That's when Mila started crying.
"I can- I can't believe I would see my parents like that. I never thought I would walk home from school and go into my house and find them like that. What worries me the most is if they are gone."
"Hey, hey, you're okay. Shh, you're okay." Selene said as he stroked her hair.
For once in the 4 hours since she found her parents, she felt comfort. So, without even thinking, she wrapped her arms around his neck, tightly.
"Okay, Mila, you can let go now." Selene said between gasps for air.
She let go finally, and he let out a loud sigh of relief from the pressure of her arms wrapped around his neck tightly. She grabbed his face and looked into his eyes.
"You're safe, Mila. I promise." he said, reassuringly. "And we will find out who ever did this."
At that moment, the phone on the desk, which was Selene's, rang.
"Hello?" he answered.
"Yes, we have some bad news." the voice on the other end of the phone said.
