Victoria's pov:
The sky looks especially beautiful today.
The clouds look like cotton candy.
"Are you listening, Victoria?" The stern voice of Miss Howard pulls me out of my trance and back into my classroom.
"Yes, Ma'am" I try to answer confidently and hope that she won't ask me any questions because I really did not listen.
"Then surely you can repeat what was said just now?" She said and looked at me expecting. Of course she couldn't just let me be.
"No, I can't." I whisper embarrassed.
She just sighs and turns back to the rest of class to go on. "We will be reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen next. So-" She was interrupted by an announcement.
"Student Victoria Klein, please come to the office." The voice of the principle sounded through the speakers.
But that's me! I'm Victoria Klein but I never did anything wrong so why?
"What are you waiting for, Victoria? Off you go now." Miss Howard emphasized her words by pointing at the door.
I pick up all my stuff and make my way towards the Office. All the way I can't stop my thoughts about roaming in circles. I mean I never did anything wrong. Never. The only times I ever went into the office was because of my schedule and when Antonio and Anastasia made trouble. Well, even at those times I would be waiting at the front so I didn't really go inside or I only went inside for a moment. I think that's besides the point right now.
Why would I be called into the office? Maybe something happened with my friends? But I just saw them at break and they were fine. Didn't look like they were about to cause troubles.
What could it be then?
The whispers of my classmates still make me shudder. Of course they must think I did something wrong but I really did not. Just the thought of being called out because of a mistake they must have made brings tears into my eyes. It will be so embarrassing to walk back into class later. I hate how I know everyone will stare.
I reached the office by now and take a few deep breaths to calm myself.
I open the door and the secretary looks up.
"You must be Victoria." She says and I can hear pity out of her voice. Why would she pity me?
"That's right" I half whisper.
"You can go straight inside." She says and points at the door into the principles room.
No going back now. Phew.
I knock on the doors and wait for a 'come in' before I open them. The window blinds are down, except for a desk lamp, the rest of the room is shrouded in darkness. The only thing I can see is the table in the middle of the room and the principle behind it.
"Victoria, please, sit down."
From the things I heard he's more the yelling type of person so I'm really surprised by his soft tone.I sit on the chair in front of the table and look up at him. He seems conflicted, as if he didn't really know how to start this conversation. And because I really am not going to be the first one to talk now, we sit in silence for a while.
"This.. I.. I have bad news for you, child." He finally says and adjusts his glasses.
I don't answer him. What should I say? He should just tell me and bring it over with.
The principle clears his throat and looks into the shadows of the room for a moment. I follow his eyes but I can't seem to make out anything.
"We just got a call from the police. It seems like your parents died in a car crash this morning."
He didn't just say what I heard right?
I wait for him to tell me it was a joke but he only looks at me sadly, waiting for a reaction.
A car crash. My parents. died. in a car crash.
I wasn't really fond of them, but nonetheless tears start streaming down my face. When I say I wasn't fond of them I mean I hated them. So why am I crying?
Suddenly the doors bang open and the shout of the secretary "You can't go insi-" gets cut off.
My best friends Antonio and Anastasia run up to me and pull me into their arms.
"Why are you crying?" Anastasia whispers while her twin brother shouts "What did you do to make her cry!" at the principle.
I was so immersed in my toughs I didn't even realize how rude he sounded. I didn't realize he said anything at all.
I pull back and look at them. "Stefan and Maria died in a car crash." My voice breaks at the end. I shouldn't care. I should thing of this as karma for all the things they did to me. But I still lost my parents. The only family I had.The twins pull me back into hug.
"What will happen to her now?" Antonio breaks the silence that took place.
The principle clears his throat again and now his voice sounds like he's happy to have good news for us.
"After it was confirmed your parents died, a document was found. Which stated that you are adopted, Victoria. And your real family was found and informed. Turns out they wanted to meet you for quite some time but haven't gotten your location. You're going to life with your real family now.
Your big brother and Father are here to take you with them."After finishing talking he looks back into the shadows and two figures come forward.
One of them looks like he's in his forty's. He's like 6'4 tall and has a built of a body builder. His hair has a dark brownish color and I can see the green of his eyes shine from here. But he looks pale and somehow sickly. He also wears a suit that looks really expensive and the look he gives me is full of so much love I need to look away. So I look the man next to him up and down.
He looks like a younger and healthier version of the older one but his eye color seems blue and his frame smaller. He seems strong and has a great built but not body builder like like the other one. After A while curiously eying each other he starts taking.
"I'm your oldest brother Luciano. It's nice finally meeting you again."
