At the beginning you want to just attack the goblin map until you feel comfortable attacking the other people. What you should do though is keep saving your gems. You want to save your gems for builders.
The beginning concept of the game is not to worry about trophies! Worry about your gold and elixer more than anything to upgrade your defenses like cannons and archer towers, and your barracks.
One of the better ways to protect your loot and not worry about trophies is to put your Town Hall outside of your walls. It may sound stupid to do but the reason you do that is because people may go for your Town Hall to get trophies and leave your loot alone.
This is just the beginning to become powerful in your game!
