Yes!!! We finally come to the part where our two main characters meet. This to me was such a fun chapter to write, and I hope I captured it in a way that is as monumental as this chapter is to the story.
Astrid's POV:
Soren and I walked into the training center. I held back my astonishment at the shear size of it. I really shouldn't be that surprised, because we have on as equally big, but I am. I can't help but also be excited. I, Astrid Hofferson, as an undercover was going to be trained in the assassins way for as long as this lasted. I would know their tactics, moves and strategies. I could use their own training against them, and even teach it to everyone back home. This mission was going to be extremely hard, deadly even; but.....................it also could be fun. Just thinking about how I was fooling everyone right now made me laugh to myself. I'd always been told that I had the demeanour and ability to be an assassin, but I'd never actually thought about how much that was true until now...........when I was an assassin. I had to be hard-cut here, but, then again............that's me everyday.
"You're probably gonna want to get rid of the little girl." Soren said, motioning to Tryston.
"I'm planning to, but the person who was supposed to take her hasn't come yet and I can't just leave her somewhere alone."
"Better than bringing her in here. Kids like her don't belong in a place like this."
"I know that, Soren, but I think I can take care of her if something goes a-wire. Besides, her father is one of the top assassins here. I'm sure he wouldn't let anything happen to her."
"I'm just saying, it's probably best to leave her behind. I've heard that LA likes to spring surprises on it's unsuspecting trainees, and I wouldn't want to be you with a child in your hands when it happens."
"Maybe you're right." I said, looking down at the girl who was scanning the room like there wasn't a care in the world. "I wonder if she would go to someone else though. Travis said that she doesn't take to that many people."
"I'm sure she'll be fine, just hand her back to Travis. It's likely that he's in this center right now and can take her back. If the father is as protective as you say, he's probably coming for her as we speak."
"I hope so. If your right and they do try to catch us off guard, I wouldn't want her to get hurt because of it."
"McCarthy!" A man's voice called.
I turned the direction I heard it from, and much to my relief it was Travis.
I motioned for Soren to go on without me with a hand, and waited for the pilot to catch up to where I stood.
"Thanks again for watching her." He said, reaching out arms to take her. "Sorry I took so long, um...........something held me up."
"No prob. I was glad to do it." I told him as I handed a somewhat unwilling child to him, smiling at the disgruntled face she had.
"What do you say, Tryston?" He asked, pulling the girl up to his level. "Should we watch daddy or go get some donuts while we wait?"
"Watch daddy!" She answered quick and enthusiastically. It was pretty obvious she loved her dad more than a little sweet.
"Well then, we better get to the spectator-deck before your father kills me for letting you in here."
"Otay." She said, compliant to the older mans wishes. "Bye Aliya." She waved a little hand at me as Travis walked away with her.
"Bye, Tryston." I waved back. "Maybe I'll see you later."
"Yeah! I tell daddy."
I chuckled at her as I turned to travel the rest of the way into the training center. I look up to see Soren waiting for me in the doorway, leaning against the door-jam with a curious grin on her face.
