"—all that said, welcome to heaven. We hope you enjoy your stay."
"Thank you," we say in unison. All of the new admissions to that one famous place called heaven.
Everyone scatters, and a purple-haired girl with the most piercing green eyes approaches me, her hand outstretched. "Amane, Amane Kanata, right? I'm Tokoyami Towa, it's nice to meet you."
"Th-that's right, it's nice to meet you.. Tokoyami-san," I shake her hand, my newly acquired angel voicebox shaking ever so slightly as I get used to the feeling of this place.
"Towa will do. I've been here forever, want me to show you around?" Towa places a hand on my shoulder, both of us turning to follow her arm as she motions toward the beautiful view of this side of heaven.
"I have nothing to lose, let's do it," Towa's smile gets bigger hearing my response. She starts off in the direction of the gate to descend the mountain, looking back every few steps to make sure I'm still following her.
After a few minutes, the path is wide enough for us to walk side by side.
"So, what happened to you?" She asks, turning to me and seeming to inspect my figure. I don't look much different to how I did when I was... alive... but I don't look completely the same either.
"Huh?"
Towa looks at me as if my confusion is anything odd. "How'd you die?"
I drop eye contact. "I don't really remember, to be honest."
Towa nods, patting my shoulder as if to almost console me. "Makes sense. Your memories are kind of in and out for the first few days."
"Will I remember it later?"
"You might, you might not. I remember mine, but I know people who don't. I don't know what determines whether or not you'll remember some of your.. later memories." Towa comes to a stop at the bottom of the mountain. "This is the square. I'll let you pick where we go first."
I look around for a moment before pointing to my right. "How about there?"
Towa nods, taking my arm in hers. "That's the way to the eternal sunset. Let's go before it gets crowded."
——————————— (large timeskip, about 4 days)
"Beautiful, right? Never seems to get old."
I sigh, memories coming back to me. "Yeah."
Towa glances in my direction, her eyebrows furrowed in a worried expression. "Everything okay, Kanatan?"
Streaks of pink, blue, and white fall into my eyes as I look down towards the soft cloud we've decided to use in place of a bench. "Yeah. Just remembering the sunsets back home."
The purple-haired girl puts an arm around me, my body temperature instantly increasing. "I was a sunset watcher too."
"My girlfriend and I would watch the sunset every night."
"Your girlfriend?" Towa raises one eyebrow and smiles. "Tell me about her."
I look back up at the sunset, my eyes shifting to the little bits of purple swaying next to me as the wind picks up. "She's tall. Very beautiful. She's a dragon. Orange hair. We're like opposites, but I love her... and.. it seems as though I left her."
"Still alive?"
"Yeah."
Towa nods, bringing my small body slightly closer to hers. "Got any pictures?"
"Pictures? How would I have-"
"Check your back pocket."
I pull out a phone that looks identical to the one I had back on earth, except it's missing its case. "Towa, how did you-"
She laughs. "It's nothing, Kanatan. Everyone gets one. Now, got any pictures of this girlfriend of yours?"
(A/N - we're going to pretend Towa's not in this fanart.)
I select a photo, the energetic dragon popping up on the screen along with me and a couple of our friends. "Coco was doing my hair before we went live one time."
"She's beautiful! Both of you are lucky." Towa zooms into the picture a little bit.
"Well, she's not really that lucky anymore, since I'm no longer there."
"She was lucky either way to have you. And who knows, maybe you'll meet again somehow." My cheeks turn bright red, Towa instantly catching on and laughing. "Chill out, Kanatan. It's just the truth."
"I am chill!"
—————————
"Towa- I told you I don't have to stay with you if it's going to bother you." Towa throws me the blanket I've been using the past few nights, since my first day here, the devil—honestly more of an angel, though—offered to let me stay with her until I can find somewhere to stay on my own.
"I swear, Kanatan. You telling me you feel bad for crashing with me is more bothersome than you actually staying here."
"Sorry." I set the blanket down on the pull out couch, Towa throwing a few pillows in my direction.
Towa sits down on the edge of the couch/bed. "It's fine. I would let you sleep in my room but I don't have a futon, only this. Just- you know the drill. Anything happens, come get me."
"Why do you have to repeat it every night?"
"Peace of mind, I guess."
———————————
"Ka..nata..."
"Towa-sama?" A clap of thunder echoes through the small apartment. I yawn, sitting up as Towa reaches for my arm.
A small blush graces her cheeks as she opens her mouth to speak, although closing it quickly as a flash of lightning is visible through the window.
"I kind of forgot to tell you I'm a bit scared of storms."
I smile, moving over slightly. "Come here."
Her face turns visibly bright red, even in the dim lighting of a small lamp she had turned on as she walked into the room.
"Would you rather go to my bed?" She whispers, pulling my borrowed comforter over her shoulders.
"You're the one who's scared of the storm. Whatever you want."
Towa turns onto her back, and one of her legs lightly hits mine. Neither of us move, the small amount of contact increasing the redness in both of our faces. "I-I'm only nervous because you're out here alone." Then she whispers something inaudible to me, although I'm more than curious to know whatever it was.
I laugh lowly, rolling my eyes as a grin spreads on my face. "Still whatever you want, Towa-sama."
She lets her legs fall off the pull-out bed, taking my hand in hers and pulling me off the couch/bed with her.
"Shall we?"
