She eventually found a book that she thought would do her some good, but after reading it and some others, she had barely learned anything. She grumbled in frustration, slamming the thick book closed and rubbing her eyes with the heel of her hand.
"Hello again October." someone whispered close to her ear. November jumped and stared wide eyed at the person behind her. Cole laughed and held his stomach while he leaned on a nearby book shelf.
"Jeeze o' Pizza Cole! Don't do that!" November hissed. "and my name is 'November' not 'October'." she added blandly. She gave him the cold shoulder and pretended to occupied with one of the [helpless] books that sat on the table in front of her.
"You can read upside down?" Cole asked doubtingly with laughter edging it's way back into his voice. November huffed, gathered her books, and walked to the front desk. There was a little shelf for non-checkout book returns.
"I heard that you are getting an internship here, so why bother putting them on the rack? You need practice putting them up don't you?" Cole followed her and watched as she arranged the books on the shelf.
"Yes, but I am not certified to put the books away since i don't have the internship yet, smart one." November cooed like a sassy kindergartner. Cole rolled his eye.
"Certification my ass. Watch this." he said plucking a random books from the shelf. He read the title and walked determined to the Non Fiction Section. November chased after him and grabbed his jacket sleeve.
"What are you doing? You don't work here!" she snapped.
"I am showing you that you don't have to be certified to put a book away. The fact that you think you have to work here in order to shelve books, is astoundingly ridiculous to me. It is literally the worst case is laziness on the planet." Cole explained reading numbers on spines and parting two thick books about golf, and popping the one between them.
One of the library workers walked past and took notice to the miniature heated argument in front of the golf section and walked over quietly.
"First of all, be quiet. And second, what in the world is going on over here? Are you arguing what club to use or something?" Mrs.Beeze whisper-shouted.
"I was just putting my book away back on the shelf Mrs.Beeze." Cole said simply, almost pridefully. He stole a glance at November and winked at her. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"Well, well, well, Mr.Quinn! I am impressed with your - um - shelving interest. How would you like an internship or something here? I see you often anyway." Mrs.Beeze said surprised.
November gasped, and cut off Cole who was getting ready to talk.
"Mrs.Beeze! I am getting that internship! You can't take it away and give it to Cole Quinn!" she cried.
"November, child hush! We are in a library! And you would still get your internship, just with Cole being an assistant or something." Mrs.Beeze said strictly adjusting her glasses and smoothing her skirt. "What do you say Cole?"
Cole smiled at November and answered Mrs.Beeze while maintaining eye contact with the wide-eyed girl.
"Yes, Mrs.Beeze. I would gladly take an internship here." he said sweetly. November scrunched up her nose and pouted turning away from the two people next to her. They both laughed.
"I am glad to hear that Mr.Quinn. You can start next week with November." she cooed patting his shoulder. November was still pouting and crossed her arms, making fake sniffling sounds.
"Oh come on, November." Cole chuckled. She stuck her nose in the air and walked away, swishing her hips. Cole stood there amused while she lost herself in the Teen Fiction section. She made a quick snatch for Eleanor and Park, while making herself comfy in a beanbag. Instantly she was engulfed in the story all over again.
