Tee only lived 5 minutes down the road but decided to get there early. Tee would be waiting there a while but that didn't really matter at the moment to her because she was enthusiastic to meet Kayleigh again after 5 years.
Once she had arrived she wondered up to one of the seats near a playground. Hopefully Kayleigh would be able to see her here.
After about 15 minutes a car pulled up at the park. Was it her? The car rolled to the stop and a guy got out of the car, so definitely wasn't her. Tee glance down at her phone and back up to see the guy getting closer, what did he want?
He crossed the field coming towards Tee but she pretended not to notice him. He probably was trying to walk to the other side of the park where the main road was.
He got closer and closer until he stopped right in front of her. He seemed nervous as he fidgeted with his phone in his hand.
"Hey Tee" the guy spoke starring right at her. Tee looked behind her and then back at the guy.
"Um... who are you? How do you know my name?" She deadpanned at him. Tee started to get anxious as she stood up from the metal seat she was on.
"It's me Kyl- Kayleigh. We just called 20 minutes ago." The guy kept playing along with the role like he was actually Kayleigh.
"Your not Kayleigh, you don't look like her! Your not even the same gender. Can you leave please." Tee said as she began walking to her car. The guy was only a few inches taller than her but still was intimidating.
"Wait Tee! I-I can prove it's me" the guy said as Tee turned around to look at him, "remember at year 7 camp, we where at the Gold Coast pcyc... you were top bunk and our cabin had this thing called 'Tea Time' where we would spill the tea of people crushes."
Tee was confused but didn't believe it, "anyone could find that out. Over 160 kids went in that camp and there was 6 people in that cabin that could of told you that."
The guy chuckled before answering, "wow still debunking my answers I see, well... remember the time we were in year 7 Chinese. It was period 6 and we were late. Mr Cunnings couldn't care less. We got a rubber and wrote yes and no it each side."
Tee was stunned at how anyone could know that, was it really her? Him? Them? She was still on the ropes about him so she began to ask questions.
"If you know me then, and you are actually Kayleigh... what's my birthday?"
"May 13th, the same as Jenny, you went to primary school with her and shared a birthday. In year seven it was on a Friday so you joked it was Friday 13th" the guy answer perfectly, leaving Tee stunned as she began to close the gab between them.
"What was the drawing you gave to Mrs Andrews?" Tee questioned hopping to catch the supposedly Kayleigh in a lie.
"We had Mr Andrews, not Mrs, as our form class teacher and I gave him a fish with a man body in a mankini." Shoot this guy knew I was trying to trick him, thought Tee. She was almost convinced it was them.
"The explain how you got my number then? And you the hell you are a guy?" Tee was confused more than anything, a little scared for her own safety, but mostly confused to why and what is happening.
Tee step back as the guy reached into his pocket. It could be anything but no. It was a piece of paper and a rubber. Half a rubber. He held it up in front of Tee. Her eyebrows narrowed down towards the bridge of her nose in confusion. She reached into her pocket and grabbed out the same things.
She held her piece of the rubber so if aligned with theirs. There was no way right? This can't be possible, is this guy really Kayleigh.
"I found this with paper wrapped around it with you phone number on it." The guy said looking down at Tee standing a smidge closer than they where before, it said 'To future Tee and Kyle'. It sound like something we would do."
Tee was still confused about the was-a-girl-now-a-guy thing though so she asked, "ok, wow. I got the same thing minus the phone number. Yet I still don't understand the gender swop thing?" Tees voice wasn't angry yet it made the guy raise his eyebrows as if she had said something surprising.
He then explained to her in two words, "I'm trans" he deadpanned, "I'm trans Tee! I'm Kyle! Not Kayleigh!" He began to raise his voice, not to loud for others to hear, not like there was anyone else there, but so Tee could hear him, loud and clear.
Tee didn't need to convince herself anymore because knew it was her year seven, best friend. She immediately stepped forward latching onto Kyle, wrapping her arms around his torso. She was happy that it was him, "I don't really understand what it means to be trans but I will let you explain it to me so I do understand."
Kyle hadn't hugged back yet because he was still shocked, yet after a minute he gave in leaning into Tee. His head rested on top of Tees and he could everything, the way the trees swayed in the wind, the subtle hum of a car that would pass every 5 or so seconds, or every breath tee took that made his stomach filled with butterflies, or the amount of thoughts that filled his head.
Once Tee final let go she stated, "we need to talk. Like a lot."
