Though Rose would have preferred to spend the nights in Comet's arms, he insisted he had to leave to stick to protocol despite shore leave in the few days that followed, as Wolffe had made it painfully clear that other morning. But Rose figured that if she had Comet's forgiveness, things could only get better from there.
It was all a burst of steam let go to release pressure bundled between Wolffe and Rose, and now that the worst had happened, Rose knew she wanted to be with Comet. Kind Comet, who'd forgiven her, held her, comforted her. She knew better than to let that go easily. Though, the image of Wolffe threatened to appear around the innermost corners of her mind... the way he growled, the way his teeth bared at her, how gruff his voice sounded when he barked those insults to her. Each time, Rose shook her head and shoved those thoughts aside, and by the time morning came, she dressed in a little blouse and one of her finest skirts to prepare for the day.
Out in the halls, Wolffe was nowhere to be seen. As she walked down headquarters, some troopers directed odd looks to her. She began to fear for a moment that news of her fling with Wolffe had gotten out, but even if it had, all that mattered to her was that her and Comet were okay. Anyone else would think what they would, and that was something Rose was way past at that point.
She'd agreed to meet Comet at the gardens out the back of headquarters; she'd seen them from afar before but hadn't spent any time there yet, and she figured being there with Comet would be as nice a way to spend the day as any. As she walked, Rose pulled out her tiny mirror to check on her lipstick, red and fine as always, when she felt a soft hand on her shoulder. She turned around to figure out it belonged to Sinker, who smiled at her, but had a note of worry in his gaze.
"Hey," he said. "You okay?"
"Yeah," Rose replied. "You heard what happened with Wolffe, I assume."
"What? No, no," Sinker appeared confused, and inside, he began to feel he'd just blown everything. "Hey, Rose?"
"Sinker?"
"Has, uh... Has Comet told you?"
Recognition flashed before her eyes. "Told me what?"
"He hasn't told you," Sinker sighed as he took his hand to rub his forehead. "Dammit, I told him to tell you soon—"
"Told me what?" Rose said firmly, her hand softly on Sinker's wrist to calm him down. "Is it about something I did?"
"No, no," Sinker's voice shook. "Look, I'm not the one to tell you."
"Sinker," Rose's eyes were pleading despite her stern tone of voice.
"I mean it," Sinker said.
Despite the fact that it could have been anything, Rose silently began to panic when Sinker didn't tell her she had nothing to worry about.
"I spoke too much, sorry," Sinker said before softly pecking Rose's forehead. "But you should find Comet soon."
"I'm just about to meet him, actually," Rose said.
"Good, if I run into him, I'll punch him," Sinker turned around and walked off, leaving Rose to make the rest of her way to the gardens with an odd thorn prickling her gut.
But she trusted Comet. Whatever it was probably had to do with a mission—maybe they'd be split for a while, maybe as a result of another of Wolffe's antics, in which case she'd get ready to finally uppercut the commander herself. Maybe she'd be the one to be shipped out. Maybe he'd gotten drunk and tattooed a huge dick across his face overnight. Whatever it was, Rose was certain she and Comet would face it together.
Sitting at a pretty bench under the shade of an enormous tree, gorgeous in all its natural glory, it wasn't long before Rose saw Comet heading towards her. She grinned brightly at him, always finding him beautiful no matter how many times she looked at him. His curly hair across the middle of his head falling in graceful curls down the back of his neck, the gray lines he had tattooed on his cheekbones that resembled the ones of his helmet... Comet was beautiful, there was no other way about it. It prompted Rose to stand up and meet him halfway, wrapping her arms happily around him as she professed her gratitude to the Force and the gods that they were together, that he'd found a way to forgive her.
