5 years later
"Alright team, who's gonna kicked some serious butt tonight?!?!" Before you ask, yes I'm at a soccer game. Yes I'm the team captain. And yes it's for the U.S. Woman's National team.
I know, I know I said I'd never play soccer again, but honestly how could I give up soccer. I live and breath soccer, I could never stop playing. After senior year, I got a full scholarship to Stanford. Apparently they've been watching me play since I was a Freshman. After I graduated from Stanford I met Abby Wambach at a park. (Super random) She said she saw a couple of my games and said I'm really good. Also that I should check out her team. And now, well here I am. I've seen my high school coach at my games standing in the crowd. Problem is, he doesn't know I'm Sara Kolan. USWN said it would be best if I changed my name. They said I've had "difficult" past and I'd be more safe. Honestly I didn't think it was that difficult. Then I realized what they meant.
Flashback
I was 5 at the time. My mom, brother and I all in bed sound asleep. Out of the blue our front door blew open and my drunk dad stood in the doorway. My mother told us to hide. I urged my older brother to stay near me, but he went to my mom. I was hiding so I don't know exactly what happened. All I know is I heard so much yelling and my mother screaming," Don't touch my son or daughter. They are mine, not yours." And with that, a gunshot went off, then another. I sprinted to the door and there stood two motionless bodies, then my mom crying her eyes out while holding my unconscious brother. Turns out my "dad" shot my brother then shot his own left arm. My brother died, but my father did not. He was taken to jail for 20 years. His 20 years were up when I joined USWN.
