Mikasa couldn't help but stare at the short, angry man that stormed down the rows of books. In truth, she was slightly appalled because libraries are supposed to be quiet and peaceful, not rave parties.
He seemed to have cooled off a bit since he stormed in, so Mikasa turned her attention back to the computer in front of her. Working as a librarian had been an ideal job for her. She knew where everything was and spent most of her time doing homework.
Most people rarely needed help and shelving books never took long, so most of her time was devoted to her Physics homework. Her college professor was tough on grading so she tried to spend extra time on the work he assigned.
She looked up as a shadow loomed over her computer. Her eyes widened as she took in a pair of sharp gray eyes. "I need help," he said abruptly. She mentally rolled her eyes. You wouldn't be here talking to me if you didn't need my help. "OK," she said patiently, "What do you need?"
The man pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed heavily, "My crazy scientist friend needs a book on biochemistry." "Oh, okay," Mikasa said surprised. He really didn't seem like the type to do favors for friends. "Whatever that means," he muttered under his breath. Mikasa's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, then she realized he was talked about biochemistry.
"Well," she said delicately, " I'm not sure what your friend is looking for, exactly. Biochemistry is a huge branch of science."
The man looked very annoyed, "I don't really care, she's a complete fanatic. She'd be happy with anything." Mikasa was very unhappy with such a vague answer but got up from behind her desk to walk over to the nonfiction section, the strange man trailing behind her.
She meandered down the aisle searching for a few she had read on the subject herself. She frequently perused the nonfiction section in the library for her college classes and knew the layout. Snagging a book here and there she walked back over to the checkout desk with a decent selection in her arms. "Do you have a library card?" she asked. The man started and then seemed to remember, "Oh yeah, four-eyes gave me her card." Mikasa politely ignored his rude nickname and took the plastic square after he dug it out of his pocket. She was careful not to brush her fingers against his and he seemed to notice. After scanning each book, she stacked them all in a neat pile, pushing it towards him. "Here you go," she said. The man nodded and gathered the books up and turned to walk away but then paused and looked back. "What's your name?" he asked abruptly. Mikasa was surprised but answered anyway, "Mikasa. You?" "Levi," the man responded. Mikasa nodded her head, "Have a good day Levi."
Levi turned and walked out and Mikasa felt a strange sense of disappointment watching his retreating figure.
As she turned back to continue her physics homework she noticed a slip of paper on her desk.
xxx-xxxx, call me, Levi
Mikasa smiled to herself. Well it seemed she hadn't been imagining things after all.

A week had passed but Mikasa had not called Levi yet. In truth she was nervous. She had been drawn to him for some strange reason, but she didn't know anything about him, whatsoever. So the slip of paper with his number on it burned a hole in her pocket as she struggled to figure out what to do.
The past week she had been distracted, all because of this Levi and as a result, her physics grade had suffered. All of her other grades had stayed high as usual, physics was her one weakness.
Her friend, Armin, could have helped her, genius that he was, but she didn't want to bother him. Already in graduate level classes, Armin was involved in some very important stem cell research.
Sighing to herself, she buried her nose in the novel she was reading as she reclined in the chair behind the checkout counter. A loud cough had her glancing up and she froze as she met a stony gaze. "Ah, hi, what can I help you with today?" she asked awkwardly. She felt bad, but she hadn't been able to work up the nerve to call him. Or even text him for that matter. He glared at her in silence for a moment, before saying, "Well, here I was, worried you were dead or something because you hadn't called me, yet here you are, safe and sound." She blushed furiously, "I've been busy," she mumbled.
He saw right through her, "You know it's rude to leave people hanging. You could have just said you weren't interested and we could have avoided this entire awkward encounter." "But I am interested, " she blurted out, "I, just, don't know anything about you." He raised an eyebrow at that, "That's the entire point of dating, getting to know somebody."
She stayed silent for a moment and he continued, "People rarely interest me and most of the people I know had a hard time getting to know me. Ironic how the one time I'm interested in someone, she doesn't even bother to call me." "I'm not used to dating someone I haven't known for a long time," she protested. In fact, she hadn't really dated a lot at all. She doubted that she was even very good at it.
Levi shrugged, "Well, in my opinion, you should choose the choice you'd least regret. Would you regret not calling me more than calling me and having it not work out? Or would you regret having it not work out more than never calling? It's up to you." With that, Levi turned and walked out of the library.
"Wait," Mikasa called out. She stood up from her desk and ran after him and grabbed his arm spinning him around. She couldn't help but notice the well-devoloped muscles in his arm. "I think talking in person is better than talking over the phone."
The corner of Levi's mouth quirked up, "Are you saying yes?" His eyes searched her face carefully, ready to back off at the slightest hint of hesitation. He found none, however and felt a surge of triumph when she said, "Yes, I'd like to get to know you better."
"Alright then," Levi said, "Meet me outside the library tonight at 7. And wear something nice." Mikasa rolled her eyes, but she felt exhilarated. This was exciting, this was new, maybe this was something that could last a lifetime.A/N: haha, exactly 1111 words without the author's note. I wanted to write something in the library because I love books and reading and then this happened. I don't know exactly where I wanted the plot to go, but this is what it turned out to be. *shrugs*
