Castle at Drachenfels

As our day begins, so it ends

For those at the

Castle of Drachenfels.

Shadows overtake the landscape,

Blurring vision

But the trees witness all.

A river flowing innocently by

In the distance, unaware of

The battle that has commenced.

Amongst the wreckage

And ruin of previous kingdoms -

Time takes all.

Horses lie

At their masters' feet,

Combat's unsuspecting victim.

To any who had watched

From the castle's bridge,

The clanking of swords

And quickly silenced screams

Would not just live in the present.

A battle, nearly forgotten

By human history,

Stands for all to see,

Amongst a collage of other canvases.
