A/n: the first story I've written in AWHILE so be gentle
❗️Mentions of death ❗️As a Dark Elf who'd lost their entire family to the war, (Y/n) had joined the imperials not long after their last son, (S/n) had disappeared in the middle of the night from their farm around Whiterun. Their partner had died fighting for the Stormcloaks, their first 2 sons had also died for them. They'd sold their farm to the Jarl and made their way to Solitude where they'd joined up with the Tullius to keep their mind busy and off the loss of their family, not thinking much of the Stormcloaks and their distaste for the dunmer. They were quickly given a small handful of assignments to complete and went on about completing those tasks.
(Y/n) had been caught in the fight when the Stormcloaks had tried to take over Fort Sungard. The battle went on a little longer than it probably should have but had ended none the less after a few hours. (Y/n) was sent back with a few other Imperial soldiers to collect their dead to bring home for burial and to collect anything of importance left over. While tossing the bodies into the carriage they'd stumbled over a few of the Stormcloaks soldiers, deciding just to peak at what Ulfric was considering for his army, sending the other imperials off to take the bodies back with the promise that they'd catch up on horse in a few.
A few nords and a dark elf. They'd stared at the dunmer for a moment, studying the face they recognized to be their son before hitting the ground, pulling the body into their lap, dropping their head to shed a few tears. It didn't take long for the elf to fall into a complete breakdown, finding your son at the battle field you just fought in wasn't the best feeling. With a small yell they'd torn the red uniform off of their body and tossed it aside, pulling the uniform of the thieves guild on to keep covered.
Ulfric had joined a few of the men to return their own dead, having seen the imperial carriage leaving the fort the assumed it was empty and safe, the men gathered the bodies around the outside of the fort as he walked inside the walls, stopping to watch the Dunmer holding his soldier in tears. Noting the discarded armor he'd kept his hand on his axe ready to fight if he'd have to. He was trying to be as quiet as he could to get around the elf but stopped when the voice spoke up "If you're going to kill me Ulfric just do it already...." Ulfric just stood up again, slowly walking in front of them and kneeling down with them.
"Not often you seen an imperial crying over a Stormcloak. He fought well, Ralof always spoke highly of him. You should be proud." He was at least TRYING to make the elf feel better even if he didn't really think he had to. (Y/n) looked up, gently wiping the tears from their eyes to see the Jarl of Windhelm kneeling before them "my whole family I lost to your war...my whole life was lost for your cause...lost to someone who couldn't even look my kind in the eyes..." slowly they'd released their grip on (S/n) and let him take him from them."You could always finish what your family started. I have a surprising amount of elves in my army so you wouldn't be out of place" he'd tossed the young boy over his shoulder when the dunmer had shook their head no to his offer and stood up, offering a hand to them to help them up "if you change your mind, come to Windhelm. You'll always be welcomed".
