A young girl is sitting in her room, hugging her teddy bear. Her eyes are teary, and there's no one around to support her. Her own mom has turned indifferent towards her, and it hurts her deeply. Despite being part of the dream city, Mumbai, the girl has only tears in her eyes. Her dreams seem to be shattered. She has changed a lot! She is not the same innocent little girl who came into this house with her mother.
She's Ruhana Dobriyal, 20 years old, but she has changed a lot in the past 14 years. This family-the parents of her mom's second husband, and her mom herself-are the reasons for this change. She doesn't know why, but she feels the only person who is benefiting from all the happenings is her half-brother, Mahesh Dobriyal. He's in his mid-twenties and is pursuing his master's degree in business. He is still spoonfed while Ruhana is taught how to behave and is told that she is very much unwanted in the family. Ruhana only feels pure anger, for her mother and brother, who love her, but she can't help but feel that she's sidelined from the whole family, even her own mother.

She is still lost in her thoughts when she hears someone calling her name. She turns only to find her brother at the door. He smiles at her.
"Tu abhi tak yahan hai? Chal, nashta taiyar hai," Mahesh says and tries to hold her hand.
"As if mere jaane se koi farak padega? Mujhe toh dadi ke taane aur maa ki daant hi milni hain, toh main jaake kya karungi. Aap jao, nashta karo," Ruhana replies coldly, her eyes darting toward her brother.

"Ruu, aisa nahi hoga. Main hoon na! Main samjhaunga Dadi ko," Mahesh tries to convince her.

She glances at him, her face hardening. "Oh really! 14 saal mein toh aap samjha nahi paaye unhe, toh ab aap kya karoge? Roz dadi mujhe taane deti hain. Main khud se kuch le nahi sakti wahan dining table se! Meri maa! Meri maa tak mujhe daant-ti hain! Dadi ke saamne aapka aur maa ka muh band ho jaata hai, fir bhi aap roz mujhe yahi kehte ho! Kya badla aapne ab tak?" Ruhana showers questions at him, and Mahesh has no answer.
"Dekh, wo...." Mahesh tries to explain, but Ruhana interrupts him.
"Kuch nahi dekhna mujhe. 14 saal se dekh rahi hoon main! 14 saal mein meri maa bhul gayi ki main unki beti hoon. Mere liye toh wo dadi ke saamne ek lafz nahi kehti! Agar nahi bol sakti toh yahan kyun laayi? Is ghar mein kyun? Galti kya hai meri? Yahi ki main ek ladki hoon, aur isliye hi dadi mujhe pasand nahi karti hai, bolo!" Ruhana says, anger dripping from her voice.
