I stared at my father, the leader of The High. My orbs of sight widened by the revelation that I, my entire life and everything that came of it...was an accident? I grinded my teeth. "All this time...I wasn't even conceived on purpose? I was...a mistake?" I felt something wet on my cheek coming from my eyes. A whimper escaped from my throat. I stepped toward him and shouted, "I...hate you!"
I lunged at him, my teeth elongated and my nails sharpened to points. I swiped at his face and he backpedaled out of range, but I was too fast. I planted my foot on the ground and shot off like a rocket towards him again, holding out my claws in front of me like a spear. Impossibly, he sidestepped and grabbed my left arm. He jerked me back and smashed the heel of his palm into my nose, breaking it. I gasped in pain and felt blood drip from my nostrils. I stared at him, realizing that even with my power he is overwhelming me. Grinding my teeth together I pounced at him but aimed low at his legs. Seemed he expected me to go for his head as he reflexively ducked, realizing too late his mistake. I dug my claws into his shins and knocked him onto his back. I clawed my way over him and started slashing into his chest and face, screaming at the top of my lungs as I attacked him.
He covered his face with his arms and I cut into his forearms, making him bleed profusely. Then he grabbed my right wrist and yanked my arm across to the left, then dug his left knee into my side. I rolled away and onto my feet and hands. He got up slowly, blood streaming from cuts on his arms, face, and chest, his black shirt torn open. He glared at me and muttered, "This is taking too long."
I bounded towards him like a wolf and howled with anger, then he reached into his white coat and pulled out a long bladed weapon. He brought it down from the left to the right, slashing my face in half from the right temple to my left cheek. I fell to the ground and clutched my bleeding face, moaning in pain. I looked up at my father between my bloodied fingers and found half my vision was blackened. I saw the weapon that dealt me such a blow. It was a longsword, decorated at the hilt with gold and a black blade. The hilt was long enough for it to be handled as a two-handed sword but short enough to not be unwieldy when using one hand. He lifted the hilt to his face and looked at it, saying aloud, "It has been a long time since I used this. Thankfully my men got it to me before they left with the monsters." He looked down at me and said, "You must be wondering about it. Swords are elegant weapons for a more civilized age, wielded only by a few chosen to hold a blade. Guns are more devastating but unwieldy. They can just as easily be used against you." He smirked and explained, "The black is not a trick. It is a material found only recently. I call it Mithral, and my sword is called Zangetsu." He swung it around a bit and then sheathed it on his belt. "A powerful substance that can create any weapon strong enough to pierce even a tank, and could be forged into armor stronger than titanium." He looked down at me and I gritted my teeth as I tried pushing myself to my feet, but my strength escaped me. He watched my pitiful attempt at defiance and turned away. "Goodbye, Dakon. May we never meet again." He walked away, leaving me to die. I thought I was going to die, but as I started to blackout I saw shadows moving in the trees and animace coming out of the greenery. I must be hallucinating, I thought. As I fainted, my last thoughts were of Reta and how I failed to keep my promise.
