~ ~ Chapter twenty six ~ ~
It was dark by the time we turned off into the medium sized town where Emily lived and I couldn’t sit in my seat properly. If only we hadn’t been side tracked so many times on this trip, we would have been here last night as Saxon tells me but I guess that’s what we get for wasting time. Saxon also reckons we would have got here faster if we ran in wolf form the entire way.
Neither of us have spoken about his little outburst despite how much I want to know what his problem with Jack is because I can’t see what Jack would have done to get under Saxons skin so much, he was one of those real honest do-gooder people who loved helping his students, well the ones who actually wanted help unlike me.
“How much longer?” yep, you can even hear the excitement in my voice, “I wonder if she will like me, I wonder what she looks like, if she will remember Travis – well, who wouldn’t? My brother is cool. Oh man, does she even know he has a sister?” my questions came tumbling out one after the other and it didn’t matter if Saxon wasn’t going to answer or not – I was super pumped to meet Emily finally!
“She better not act like you though,” I grunted with my nose scrunched up slightly but then shook that thought away, no, Travis wouldn’t like someone like Saxon and I'm pretty sure he would have said something if she was a Saxon mini me.
“Calm down,” Saxon muttered, slowing down and taking a right but he looked slightly amused by my excitement though I noticed he wasn’t showing any of his own. Didn’t he miss his step-sister? Some part of him must care about her, even deep down. I couldn’t imagine my family not caring about me; it would be heart breaking.
“Calm down? What if she doesn’t like me?” she is going to be a part of my family after all. Oh, I'm so excited about meeting her, I’ll have a sister! For once there will be another female in our household – presuming she moves in with us.
“Trust me; she is going to love you,” Saxons tone sounded dry and annoyed, glancing over at him his eyes were flashing back and forth between the houses. This must be her street! My grin couldn’t be wiped off my face even if a tornado itself tried, “Stop jumping up and down in the seat,” Saxon scolded lightly as he glanced at me.
“I can’t help it, I'm so excited!”
“I know, you keep telling me,” He muttered again but with a small smile.
“How do you know she will like me? You haven’t spoken to her in how long....” I trailed off since I didn’t actually know how long she has been gone for.
“I will bet you two hundred dollars and to be your slave for a year that she will like you,” He muttered, again in that same dry tone.
“What’s your problem?” I suddenly asked; he is obviously not excited about seeing her but really thinks I will get along with her.
“Nothing,” But I gave him the same look I give my brothers when I know they are withholding information and they can’t help but spill, which is exactly what he did, “Fine, do you really think she is going to be happy to see me after what I did?”
“Say sorry then,” I shrugged, “And mean it.”
“Heck no,” He scoffed, “I told you I don’t say ‘sorry’ to people.” He shot me an annoyed look for even suggesting it.
“You say ‘sorry’ to me all the time,” I pointed out; using the same air quotation marks he had just did.
“You’re different,” He muttered instantly.
