~ ~ Chapter Forty ~ ~
Standing in my room and packing my duffle bag, it reminded me of when I packed it last time – to go on my road trip with Saxon to get Emily back. Gosh, it feels like that happened so long ago now. Actually, so much has happened since I came home, I'm surprised I'm even keeping up with it all.
“Here.”
I turned to glance at Saxon who was handing me my shampoo and conditioner along with my toothbrush and a hairbrush. Smiling a little, I reached out and took it from him before dumping it somewhere in my bag then stuffing some jeans in top of it.
“Your clothes are going to be all crinkled,” his lecturing tone commented from behind me.
Shrugging, “Like I care about crinkles.” I mean, come on, look around my messy room – does it look like I care?
“Whatever then,” he muttered and walked back over to my closet.
Looking up at my bedroom window I could see the late afternoon sun starting to set and Brody was still out there, running his anger off. I know some of the things he had said and the way he reacted was childish and uncalled for but he’s my brother and I can’t bring myself to hate it.
“I'm going to go find Brody before we leave, see if he’s okay now,” I mumbled, turning to look at Saxon who nodded slightly.
“Just don't get too sidetracked.”
Scoffing loudly, “I don't get sidetracked.”
He turned to look over his shoulder at me, his dull green eyes sparkling with amusement, “You get distracted all the time Eva, like right now – you’re meant to be packing not going for a run,” and he pointed at the bag on my bed, acting like I didn’t know it was there.
Pulling a face him, “You’re doing most of the packing anyway,” I muttered as I moved away from my bed and walked towards my door, “Back soon,” I sang out over my shoulder with a small wave and headedout into the hallway.
Walking past Travis’s room I happened to look in and almost gagged at the sight of him and Emily cuddled up on his bed, staring lovingly into each other’s eyes but they hadn’t noticed me when they leaned in to kiss. Pulling a horrified face I quickly reached in and grabbed his door handle, “When you get a room you usually shut the darn door,” I muttered, shutting it quickly behind me.
“Shouldn’t have been spying little sister!” Travis shouted back out to me with a laugh.
“I wasn’t!”
“Sure you weren’t!” he laughed again as I walked to the top of the stairs and climbed up onto the banister, smiling to myself because it’s been awhile since I’ve slid down here.
The air rushed against my face as I grinned going the whole way down with my arms out wide on both sides of me as I balanced myself before preparing my jump off at the end. As I jumped into the air someone just had to come running out of the room to the side of the stairs and I couldn’t stop myself as I went crashing into them and knocking us both to the ground.
