"I need time, I need time baby
Can you fight, can you fight with me"
Thump. Thump. Thump.
That was Yae's heart this morning, unlike previous mornings and stories. Unlike her other visits with Zhongli and Hu Tao, there was a sense of dread that flooded her veins.
A sense of dread she would not let anyone see.
No. She was Yae Miko, among the youngest CEO's in Teyvat, much less Inazuma. Even those who were so highly sought after and respected, they bowed down to her. Not to anyone else, not even little Sangonomiya Kokomi and she had everyone wrapped around her bow.
Yae was the one who established the power, she was the one everyone confessed their sins too, hence why the churches often begged her to be there at their parishes. She declined more often than not, religion felt empty now, churches felt lonely and like a place of painful memories and whilst she attempted to be a shine maiden, almost becoming a Guuji. There was this hollowness in her hesrt that could not be fulfilled.
Nothing had fulfilled her heart, not even tormenting Scaramouche or Gorou made her happy anymore. All Yae did was work and observe.
She watched people join and leave the company, some crawling back wounded and lost *AYATO*, others stayed for a long time and worked their way up. Others were interns and learnt about the cruelness of the world first hand from her taunting personality, to the way she phrased her sentences. Words so carefully woven you had to be a master at manipulation to decipher the true meaning.
Only few people had understood that, so few Yae could list them on one hand but two of them were gone and she was forever alone.
"Miss Yae," her secretary, Kamisato Ayaka called out. Her cheeks flushed a soft pink and her white hair dishevelled as she walked around the desk to speak to Yae. "There's someone here to speak to you, she said you were old friends? Mr Scaramouche recognised her so I sent her up."
"Oh, you sent her up without my direct consent?" Yae asked smoothly, her brow raising slightly. "My, my, my they must be worth my time if little Kamisato Ayaka sent them to my office unattended."
"Not unattended, with Thoma Miss."
"Oh, your fiancé?" Yae continued, watching the area and taking note how no one was in the hallway. Everyone was locked up in their offices. Odd.
"Pardon? No, no you have it all wrong Thoma isn't my fiancé. He's much too old for me, he's a family friend."
"I suppose you believe that," Yae sighed as she took off. "Just remember Miss Kamisato, do not allow this to happen again. If Scaramouche recognises them, well, wouldn't you love to find out first hand why he came crawling back to me in the middle of a thunderstorm first hand?" She hummed focusing on her path to her office, not looking back at Ayaka.
Yae opened the door to her office that outlooked Inazuma, right next to a blossom tree she spent thousands on being able to build next to.
But that, for once, wasn't what she focused on.
No, it was the guest in her office. A person she hadn't seen in years, looking the same as ever as she had her head bowed sitting in a seat opposite Yae's oak desk.
"Ei..." she breathed closing the door behind her, not seeing Thoma in the room. It was only Ei with her purple hair still tied back in a braid as always, still as long as ever
"Miko." Ei responded coolly, her voice as smooth as ever as she glanced over Miko. There was a hint to a smile on her face but her words and how she said them didn't portray it.
"Why are you here Ei?" Yae asked as she grounded herself, her back was straight as she walked past one of her many bookshelves. Subtly, flicking down a picture of her, Makoto, Ei and Scaramouche in secondary school.
"I wanted to see you."
"Only now?"
"No."
"Then why turn up now Ei?"
"Because."
"Because what? You have no business here Ei."
"My brother is here."
"The same brother you walked out on and left in my care. How benevolent," Yae huffed as she sat down. The usual icy cool aura of hers disappating.
Ei looked away. "I needed time Yae."
"And I understand that, but you walked out on me Beelzebul and you can't walk into my office unannounced. I am sorry, but I have a job to do and if you must excuse me I have a meeting to prepare for," Yae gritted as she stood up briskly. Walking around to look for her notes for the meeting... in two days.
"I apologise Miko... I just..."
"You what? What did you want or need Ei?"
"To see you once more before I go off again..."
"Again... leaving me for another five years, leaving your brother too? Go and fuc-"
"Miss Shogun I am hear with your-" Thoma interrupted as he entered the room. Seeing Yae sighing heavily snd glaring at Ei who jumped up immediately.
"I apologise Mr Thoma, but I have overstayed my welcome. I must return home soon."
Yae scoffed as Ei waltzed out and Thoma placed the tray with dango milk on one of the side cabinets. Watching the pink haired woman carefully as she felt her heart bleeding on the floor once more. Spilling for all to see, just like the tears threatening to leave her eyes once more
