SCARLETT HEIGHTS

CHAPTER TWO

                       AVERY
I apply finishing touches to my sketch, adding highlights to the trees making them look mysterious, our car is in the middle of the road, and with each stroke of my pencil, I bring more trees to life, blurring the ones in the background.

I use colors on rare occasions when I want to distinguish the color of a person's eye, I prefer using only a pencil,
Drawing is my escape from reality, My dad bought me my first journal when I was 10, I took some lessons for a while then I stopped.  To me, drawing is like a breath of fresh air.

"We're here" I hear mum say,

I lift my eyes to see a large gate with security men stationed by each side
Simmons drives forward and hands a card to the security man, he takes the card and runs the information on his laptop, we hear a beep and the gate opens
He hands the card back to Simmons

"Welcome to Scarlett Heights," he says politely

Simmons nods in acknowledgment.

We drive through the gate, I see the school at a distance,
We drive for a while about 10 minutes before we arrive
My breath hitches in my throat
This school is breathtaking

Simmons navigates the car to an open space in the parking lot to park.
I come down and look around

I see the hostel buildings with their crest at the top,
The buildings weren't exactly modern, I felt like Harry potter in Hogwarts.

I look around and see students, parents, and staff, moving around,
I see clusters of students with teachers giving directions.

Mr. Simmons brings out our suitcases from the trunk, carrying them in twos to a building not far from where we stood

Anthony explains to me that all suitcases of students are sent to the building, there are name tags on every suitcase to avoid getting mixed up, and they are screened and cleared then sent to the rooms.

I check my clearance paper and I see that I'm in Salador house, while Anthony is in Gylarin house. He offers to take me to my hostel before going to his.

Time to say goodbye to my mum.

"I'll miss you both so much", she says smiling sadly
“ it's not too late I can go back with you," I say
“ We've already come this far, no second thoughts"
  “Bye mum,” Anthony says hugging her
“I know there's no need to say this, but, take care of your sister” she kisses him on his cheek
“Of course mum,” he says
“Bye mum,” I say hugging her
“Bye darling,” she says kissing my cheek.

Simmons starts the car and my mum gets in

“I love you both ”
“Love you too mum” Anthony and I say simultaneously

“Oh Avery here's your drink,” she says handing me my bottle of yogurt.

“Thanks, mum”

“Bye guys,” she says waving goodbye

Anthony and I wave back till the car disappears down the road

“Time to show you your hostel,” he says
“Alright”

On our way to the hostel, he points at some buildings, explaining what they are for. He showed me the main school building where we'll take classes and the soccer field. Finally, we get to my hostel.

“Well this is it, I'm not allowed to go in, so I'll see you," he says hugging me

“Okay, bye”
I walk into the building and there's an admission office on the right. A lady is sitting behind a desk typing on her computer. I walk up to her and she looks young, probably in her early thirties.
She asks me to hand over my clearance form and I do.
She gives me my class roster for the term and my clearance form.
I'm in Room 6, she directs me to go to the left down the hall, and up a staircase, it is the third door on my right.
She also asks me to drop by the nurse's office to sign in for the term.

I thank her and leave, on my way to the staircase, I see a door by my right with a sign, Nurse's Office on it, and go in.

The room is large and spacious about 30 beds in total. The walls are painted white. There are two doors at the end. I can barely see what is written on the sign due to the distance.
There's a door to my right with an office sign hanging from it. I knock on the door twice, then I hear a voice asking me to come in,

The paint in this room is similar to the one in the main room, there are shelves on both sides of the wall with various bottles of medicine. I notice a redheaded lady sitting behind a desk peering at the folder in front of her. I see two other desks across the room an indication that she isn't the only nurse here

"Good morning ma'am, I was asked to come here to sign in for the term"

She looks up at me and smiles
“Okay love, clearance form please,” she asks typing on the computer on her desk.

I hand my form to her, after cross-checking my details with the one on her monitor, she hands me a blue folder, there are 5 columns, and she asks me to write my name, age, room number, grade, and sign in the last.

I fill it out and give back the folder.
I take my form, offer my thanks and leave the room.

Congratulations❤ you've made it to the end of chapter two, the first day of school is always strenuous, both in day schools, boarding schools, and colleges, who else agrees?
