"Stay safe, I love you."

This is the way you say goodbye to Reno before work every morning. Being a Turk, his job naturally lands him in dangerous situations, something you're not particularly fond of thinking about, so you make sure to always say this to him - although whether it's to help him or yourself you're not too sure.

"Yeah, I will babe - you know me," he grins, but there's a sense of reassurance behind his words too, a promise that he'll be home with you that night, ready for cuddles on the sofa and watching shitty reality TV shows as you both unwind from work, him taking you in his strong arms and holding you close, peppering kisses to your head as you nuzzle back into him with a contented sigh. You're snapped out of your thoughts by Reno wrapping his arms around you and pressing a kiss to your forehead, "And I love you too. So goddamn much," he murmurs, smiling down at you with a warmth and gentleness you're sure not many people think Turks are capable of, before tilting your chin up gently and leaning down to kiss you.

You eagerly meet his lips, wrapping your arms around his neck and running one hand through his hair as he places his right hand on the small of your back, cupping your cheek with his left as his lips move against yours - gently, as if he's trying to reassure you through his ministrations that he's going to be alright. All too soon, you break apart, the kiss leaving you slightly breathless and weak at the knees even after almost a year together. You feel a small hint of satisfaction seeing the light pink dusting on his cheeks, knowing you have the same effect on him that he has on you. He shakes his head with a soft chuckle as he steps back, releasing you from his embrace,

"But really sweetheart, enjoy your day off. Try not to worry about me - I'll be home before ya know it and then we can order pizza in. I dunno about you, but I already can't be bothered to cook tonight."

"That sounds great," you grin, doing a little hop of excitement at the thought of getting your favourite food. He smiles affectionately at your antics, leaning in to place one last kiss on your lips,

"I'll see you tonight babe," he says, before adding with a smirk, "Try not to miss me too much."

You laugh at this, rolling your eyes lightheartedly at his joke. You're used to his teasing by now, but you still can't help the soft blush rising to your cheeks, and you notice his smug grin at the sight,

"Look, you better get going - you don't want Tseng on your ass if you're late," you say, folding your arms and raising an eyebrow at him as you try and fail to look stern.

"Yeah yeah, I'm going," he smirks, before his face softens into a genuine smile as he says, "I love you. See you tonight."

"I love you too, see you later," you smile, watching him for a moment as he turns and walks down the street to the parking garage where his car is, taking in the sight of his ponytail swaying side to side and eyeing how his suit fits perfectly across his strong figure. He clearly notices you staring, as he gives his hips a little wiggle, before turning around and winking at you just before he disappears out of sight around the corner.

Now alone, you giggle to yourself, shaking your head slightly with a smile. You have no idea how you ended up being so lucky, but you're grateful you did. Growing up, you lived a quiet life, working in the coffee shop your parents owned in the slums before moving Topside with your parents' blessing and your life's savings to open a second coffee shop of your own. It was here you met Reno, as he came in with Rude one day after finishing a job, and as soon as you laid eyes on each other you were smitten. It's cliché, you know, but it's true. The first meeting was pretty standard, but over time Reno came into the shop more and more, sometimes with Rude and sometimes without. If he could, he came in during quieter hours, and sometimes you'd just sit and chat about everything and nothing in particular, until one day he finally asked you out on a date, and the rest is history. You knew straight away that he was a Turk - it's not exactly hard to tell from his suit and the way he carries himself - and you've known all along that his job is dangerous, that he often has to do things you'd prefer not to think about, but you also know that's it's just work. When he's working, he might be a brutal, ruthless operative capable of who knows what, but outside of work he's your Reno, the man who likes cuddles on the couch and drinking hot cocoa, who likes wandering through the streets of Midgar with your arms around each other, smiling and laughing, not giving a damn who's looking. It's just a job, and although you often worry for his safety - especially on days like today when he's working on Sundays when the shop is closed, and you have time to actually dwell on these things - you know that he can handle himself, and that he will soon be back home safely in your arms. You shake your head to snap yourself out of your thoughts as you realise you're still standing in the doorway staring at the spot where Reno disappeared, and head back inside to get ready for the day ahead.
