3.16 illuminated

"Alice? What are you gonna do?" Dad asks.

"Step back." I say looking at the door and making my eyes glow.

I kick open the door and dad looks at me shocked as I run in. I look at Isaac and then at the crying girls.

Allison walks in and looks at Isaac. "What..." she starts.

She looks at me and rushes over as we both check for any marks. "Alice..." Allison says as I look at Vicky.

I look at her and she shows me the back of Talia's ear. "'5'?" I ask with a frown until we both hear growling and we look at Isaac as he sits against the bed.

He starts crying and i walk over to him. "What happened?" I ask sitting on my knees.

"Did you see them?" He asks me as I grab his hand.

"Who?" I ask putting my hand on his cheek.

"There were five of them." He cries.

"What do you mean?" Allison asks holding Talia on her big belly.

"They wore black. I couldn't see their faces. They were covered." He says.

"Like masks?" I ask.

"One of them... I could see his eyes. They were greenish-yellow. Like a..." he shivers. "Like a firefly." He cries.

I look at dad and he gets up. He looks at the window. "The security system wasn't triggered." Dad says continuing to check.

"How the hell did they get in then?" I ask him.

"They didn't. It's like they came out of the shadows." Isaac says making dad look up.

I look at him and then at Allison who also frowns. "Dad?" I ask him.

"What's wrong?" Allison asks.

"Uhm... I'm not sure. Listen, the three of you... I need you to keep this quiet for a few hours." Dad says standing by the door.

Isaac sniffs. "From everyone?" He asks.

"Just for 24 hours." Dad says.

I frown. "They could've killed him!" I yell suddenly angry.

"They didn't. And I think there's a reason why. I think they might've been after me." Dad says staying calm.

We all three look at him and he walks out. Allison looks at the twins and then at us. "You guys okay?" She asks.

"Yeah, we'll be fine." I say nodding.

She nods and walks out with Talia. "Allison..." I say.

She stops and looks at me. "Yeah." She says.

"You kidnapping my kid?" I ask standing up.

She looks at Talia and smiles innocently. "Sorry." She says handing her to me.

She leaves and closes the door. Isaac gets up and walks to the bathroom. "I'm gonna take a shower." He says still shaken up.

He goes to close the door but I put my hand between it. He frowns and looks at me. "Please keep it open." I say softly.

He thinks for a minute and then nods. "Okay." He says leaving it open.

I sit on the bed with Vicky and start playing with her as Talia is back in the crib sleeping. She's sitting up and looking at my small baby bump.

"What are you looking at, tiny human?" I ask picking her up.

I sit her on my legs and she hugs my belly. She does some baby talk and I smile. "It's your baby brother." I say softly.

"What if it's a girl?" Isaac asks walking in.

I look up and sit up a little. "You okay?" I ask.

He nods and lays in the bed. "You're getting the pillow wet." I say pulling it away under his head.

He smiles and grabs mine. "No, Isaac." I smile pulling it away.

Vicky out of nowhere pulls on his hair and he pulls it back. "What was that?" He asks with a huge smile and grabbing her from me.

She smiles and starts eating her hand as I quickly snap a picture from her first smile. "Both first smiles caught on camera." I say going over her head with my hand.

I kiss her forehead and Isaac smiles kissing me softly. "I love you." He says softly.

I look at him and smile. "I love you too." I say.

After about an hour everybody in the apartment is asleep. I'm the only one awake and I'm laying in Isaac's arms.

He pulls me closer in his sleep and mutters something. I sigh and close my eyes.

"I want the cakes on the table and the boxes in the tree on equal heights. Don't forget the robes." Lydia instructs the boys.

I smile as I walk in with Allison and the stroller. "You really went all out, even without any power." Allison smiles with her hand on her belly.

"Of course I did. It's not everyday my best friends get pregnant with a month between them." Lydia smiles picking up Talia.

"Lydia? Is this good?" Aiden asks her.

"Yes. Ethan pull it up a little higher." She yells.

Scott and Isaac put two cakes on the table. "What do you think?" Isaac asks walking over to me.

"I like it." I smile nodding.

He smiles and picks up Talia. "Let's go see what your sister is doing." He says.

"1...2...3..." everybody counts as Allison, Scott, Isaac and I stand under the boxes with ropes to open them.

We pull and I look up as blue confetti and balloons come out above me. I let out a scream and hug Isaac. I look at Allison as she hugs Scott with pink balloons and confetti around them.

I smile and Isaac kisses me happy. "I told you it was a boy." I say. 

"Sorry, love." He says kissing me again and picking me up with his hands around my back.

Allison shrieks and hugs me. "Oh my god."  She smiles.

I hug her back. "I can't believe you're having a girl." I smile.

"I can't believe you're having a boy." She smiles.

Later that night I'm sitting on the bed and Isaac puts the twins to bed. "There's this party. At Derek's loft. Is it okay if I go?" He asks.

I nod taking off my shoes and he looks at me as I change into my pjs. "You thought about any names?" He asks.

"Yeah, I thought Vernon." I say looking at him.

He looks at me for a minute and then nods. "I like it." He says softly.

I smile and get in the bed. "Don't you have a party to go to?" I ask with raised eyebrows.

He smiles and kisses me. "I'll see you in the morning. I love you." He says before leaving the room.

I grab my book and start reading it in silence. The twins are both asleep as I get up to go to the bathroom.

I walk out of the bathroom and hear something behind me. I turn around and see the guys Isaac described behind me.

I let out a growl and expose my fangs. One of the guys grabs my arms and the other puts his hand behind my ears.

Cold washes over me and I look in the glowing greenish yellow eyes as the guy puts his hand on my belly.
