Walking into the land of freedom, I make my way into Starfell lake. The statue of the anemo archon radiating divine energy that seems to never end. Taking only a second to glance at the monument, I continue towards the city of freedom.
I traveled here from the waters of Liyue and before that, from Sumeru. I just graduated from the prestigious academy there and decided to take a small breather to myself before heading home to Natlan. I picked the nation of Mondstadt for this precisely because the citizens as well as the nation itself is a calm place to be. The freedom that is encouraged there pretty much guarantees that I can rest in its boarders at least.
Traveling through the whispering woods, I can finally see the large city's walls through the leaves. The stone bricks seems to be shining in the sun as well as the large bridge into the city allowing all to enter its territory.
Within a few minutes, I made my way into the city. The guards saluted at my entry and I immediately stopped once in the land to take in my surroundings. The people in the city were both kind and lively, and everywhere I looked I saw smiling faces.
Encouraged by the aura of the citizens, I let a small smile come onto my face as I turned to look for an inn. I asked a few people, and they directed me to a large inn near the city square.
After paying the innkeeper, I went to finish exploring Mondstadt. The only places I had left to see in the city now was the cathedral and the statue of Barbatos.
"Oh come on! What is it with Mondstadters and their obsession with stairs?" I ask rhetorically as I make my way up to the city square.
Before too long, I heard the sound of a lyre playing followed by a melodic voice.
Confused and intrigued, I picked up my pace and arrived in the square. Right before me I spotted a small crowd in front of the Barbatos statue watching a boy in green play gracefully with his lyre. Smiling at the group, I decide to situate myself into the crowd and listen to the rest of the performance.
"...and that's all for today folks! Please be sure to come to my next performance!" The boy said joyfully.
The crowd clapped and soon started to disperse. Going back to my plan for today, I started to make my way to the cathedral just before the boy called to me.
"Hey, are you from Sumeru?" The green-clad boy asked cheerfully.
Turning around to meet his gaze I nod as I give out a reply. "Yeah. I am a scholar from there. I'm just visiting Mondstadt as a tourist."
"Ah a scholar I see!" The boy replies. "I'm Venti! A widely known bard here in Mondstadt!"
"Rame." I introduce myself politely before noticing a glowing pendant on his hip.
Following my line of sight, Venti chuckles. "Oh this? It's my vision of course! I see that you have one as well, Rame."
Blinking a few times to refocus, I nod and tap my own. "Yes, we both have been blessed I see."
Venti visibly winces for a second. "Yeah... blessed. Wait, is that a Dendro vision?!"
Sighing, I nod once again. "Yes it is. Must come as a surprise given how little people posses one."
"No actually."
Surprised, I shift my weight analyze the boy in front of me. "Hm? How so?"
Venti shrugs and replies in his carefree voice. "It's just that you seem to be the type who the Dendro archon would favor."
"What do you mean-" I start.
"Oops! I said too much." Venti interrupts with a giggle before running away. "Nice meeting you Rame!" He yells back as he disappears down the stairs.
Still standing at the same spot from a moment ago, I take a few seconds to come back to reality. That was a... interesting individual.
Paying no mind to any onlookers, I shake my head and continue my way to the cathedral. Once there, I take my time looking at the architecture as well as meeting the staff before heading back to the inn for the night.
Planning my day ahead of time, I decide to leave for windrise first. Exiting my room, I pass the innkeeper and open the doors just to be met with the spritely boy I met yesterday.
"Greetings, Rame!" Venti greeted. "A fine day it is today, huh?"
Still taken by surprise, I smile quickly and spit out a response. "Yeah it is. Any reason you're here Venti?"
Venti smiles and raises a pointer finger. "I just wanted to visit a friend that's all! Say, are you free today? We can go explore Mondstadt, and I'll be your personal tour guide!"
"A tour guide?" I question. "I thought you were a bard."
"Well yeah I am, but I just so happen to know Mondstadt pretty well you see!" The boy in green smiles as he grabs my wrist. "C'mon, lets go!"
Before I knew it, Venti led me to Windrise while pointing out all the "tourist locations" on the way there. We passed by a small hillichurl camp or two, crossed a small river, and payed a visit to the anemo archon's statue before taking a break under the large tree's branches.
"Ahhh this was great wasn't it?" Venti asked with a relived sigh. "Such a nice breeze to accompany us on a nice day. Perfect for sightseeing."
Smiling at the boy's carefreeness, I nod. "Yeah, it is quite peaceful."
Venti stretches out his arms and falls on his back. "I'm glad you agree!"
Watching as the boy in green lays in the grass, I start to stare at his vision once again. The energy coming from it doesn't seem the same as a normal vision. Letting curiosity take over me I use elemental sight. Viewing the world though it's elements only, I can see that they boy's vision anemo vision actually holds no anemo energy in it at all.
"Curious aren't you?"
Startled, I immediately move my eyes away from the vision just to catch Venti's eyes in mine. "J-Just a little."
Venti propped himself up on his elbows. "About my vision?"
I nod. "It doesn't seem normal."
"And why do you think that, Cecilia?" The boy responds, casually using a random nickname.
"Well I have the ability to use elemental sight... and your vision doesn't emit any anemo energy." I explain, listing that reason with one of my fingers. "Second, I know how a vision behaves from both my studies and my own around my neck. Yours doesn't act normally."
Venti nods happily and uses one of his hands to mimic a 'go on' sign. "Mmhm. continue, continue."
"Lastly, when I looked with my elemental sight, you yourself emitted anemo energy. As if you were a being that is one with anemo." I finish.
"Wooow! You sure are observant! No wonder you graduated Sumeru's Academia!" Venti responds with a applause.
Staying silent, I just stare into the sky. After a few seconds of silence, I hear venti sigh.
"You want me to come clean don't you?" The boy asked oddly serious for his cheerful demeanor.
Looking over to the boy, I nod. "Yes, excuse me for prying."
"Ahh don't worry about it. You are a researcher after all." Venti assured.
Taking the anemo glass orb from his hip, the boy hands it to his companion with a small smile and stands. After taking a breath, the boy exhales and a column of anemo energy starts to swirl around him. Holding out a hand, Venti then accumulates the energy into his palm and it condenses into the anemo sigil before dissolving.
After watching the short action, Rame looks down at the old vision just to see no changes. "You're Barbatos."
"Yes indeed." Venti confirms as he takes his seat next to her once more.
"Why tell me of all people?" The lavender-haired girl asked. "Surely a researcher is the last person you'd want to tell this to."
The archon hummed before pulling one of the Cecilia's off of his burette. "I told you because I have been charmed by you, Cecilia."
Rame blinked a few times before processing what the boy in front of her said. "You what?!"
