Cheryl opened the front door to a surprise. Her old friend— or er— former flame, Heather. She had emailed her a few nights not expecting a reply, but here she was decked in a librarian outfit complete with stylish cat-eye framed glasses on top of her nose.
Something about this whole thing felt off but Cheryl didn't care. Heather was there. Toni was with Fangs. Maybe it's time I be happy too. Cheryl thought.
With everything that was going on; Percival Pickens, Riverdale on the brink of war, Pop's being torn down, Toni's current state, and to top it off, Zelda being the head of Hecate Church. Yes, Cheryl deserved to be happy, she invited Heather in.
Figuring out Heather was a part of the Church of Hecate, it hurt Cheryl because there is a chance her mother was behind the whole thing.
That night she dialed a number she had etched in her brain waiting for it to stop ringing was agonizing.
"Hello?" a male voice with a British accent asked groggily.
"Cousin, it's me." Cheryl tentatively announced.
"Cheryl?!" Ambrose sat on his bed.
"Yes," Cheryl nods in a hush voice she asks, "did my mother send Heather?"
"Heather?" Ambrose asked looking over his records, "Like your old flame, Heather?"
"Yes." Cheryl replied impatiently.
"Cher," Ambrose sighs, "is her last name James?"
Cheryl's breath got caught in her throat; she knew what was coming, "She did, didn't she?"
"I'm so sorry, cousin," Ambrose breathed apologetically, "but it seems like Aunt Zee has sent Heather to you. The reason is a bit unclear, though, but I'm gonna find out, I swear."
"Thanks," Cheryl drops the phone ending the call as she crumbled on the floor crying. "Why would you do this?!" she asked clutching the picture of Zelda to her chest. "Do you not trust me? I've been alone all these years without anyone to take care of but Nana Rose, a cynical woman who has done nothing but make this transition difficult, and you, my mother do not care enough to check-in. Why mother?!"
