Melora kept the curtains closed as they traveled to the inn. Drystan wanted her to keep the curtains closed so no one could see inside the carriage. They were moving faster than they were earlier in the day. Drystan wanted to get to the inn as quickly as they could.
The carriage stopped, and Melora resisted the urge to open the door herself or peak through one of the curtains. Drystan had made her promise not to move until he told her to. Until he opened the door and held out his hand. She strained her ears, trying to hear any voices outside, but couldn't hear anyone. Not even Drystan.
Suddenly, the right door was opened and she heard Drystan call out her name. She moved to the door and grabbed onto his outstretched hand. It was dark outside now and cold. It was so cold that she felt it inside of her bones. Drystan wrapped an oversized fur jacket around her shoulders as he led her into the inn.
There wasn't a single light on outside to help illuminate the crosswalk leading up to the inn. Her grip on Drystan's hand tightened. She didn't like not knowing where she was going. She didn't like not being able to see.
"I've got you, little one," Drystan's voice filled her ears. "I know the man who owns this inn. He, or any of his employees, will not bother you while you are here." He continued to lead her through the door of the inn.
Melora brought her hand up to shield her eyes from the sudden light. Once she thought that her eyes were adjusted, she brought her hand down and looked around her. The inn was small. Everything was made out of wood. A small bar sat on the right side of the inn and several wooden, round tables with small stools sat in front of them.
"Where is everyone?" she asked him. There wasn't even a bartender. No one greeted them.
"I made everyone leave until I could get you to your room," he explained. He started to the stairs.
Melora looked up at him. "Is everyone here just like-" she trailed off.
Drystan looked down at her and smiled, showing off his fangs. "Yes, Melora. Everyone that is staying here is what I am."
"I'll be safe?" She knew her voice sounded timid, but she couldn't help herself. Drystan was safe. She felt completely safe around him, but any other vampire she wasn't too sure.
Drystan stopped at the bottom of the stairs and pulled her closer to him. He wrapped an arm around her waist, pinning her against him. "You are always safe with me. Understood? I will fight any being or monster that dares to harm you." He reached down and slung her legs over his arm, cradling her. He started to walk up the stairs. "Do you understand, Princess?"
Melora wrapped her arms around his neck. "Yes, I do."
Drystan didn't look at her as he gave a sharp nod. He stopped outside of a door and he used his elbow to open the door.
"You're going to stay in here with me, right?" Melora asked him as she looked around the room. The room was comfy. A low, large bed covered in fur blankets sat in front of them. Two dressers sat on either side. Lit oil lamps filled the room with a soft light. On the left wall, a large window showed the dark with two chairs facing it.
Drystan shut the door with his foot and placed her on the bed. He walked over to the window and closed the curtains on either side of it. "Yes, Melora." He turned back to her and crawled over her. "I told you I'm not going to leave your side." He leaned down and ran his lips over her neck.
Melora closed her eyes and was surprised when her body arched into him. Her fingers ran up through his hair, pulling at the ends. Her body was reacting without her knowing. He could control her body with just a tiny touch. She wanted him to take her completely right there. "Drystan," she pleaded with him. She didn't know what she needed, but she needed the ache in her stomach to release.
