It was a normal Tuesday afternoon and you were working at your job at the clothing shop when you felt your phone vibrate in your back pocket. You hoped it was your boyfriend Colin. You haven't talked to him since that morning when he kissed you goodbye before going to work. You had gone to the police station during lunch to drop off a sandwich for him, but one of the detectives told you that he was out with Mare doing some investigating. You weren't alarmed at first since Colin has been quite busy recently with two cases of a group of missing girls and a murder. He had a lot on his plate and he needed time, and you understood that. But now it was almost nine o'clock and you were closing. You had messaged Colin after your lunch break to tell him you had left him some food, but he didn't answer.
A few hours later you tried to call him to ask if it was okay, because usually by now he was leaving work. But something was different, you felt a strange feeling errpt in your stomach, it was worry. Now here you are getting a call from an unknown number. You pouted upon seeing that it wasn't Colin's number, but you decided to answer anyway. You clicked the green button and accepted the call. "Hello, is this Y/n Y/l/n?" A female voice said. "Yes this is her." You responded as your co-worker left the shop for the night. "This is Mare, this was the first number in Colin's contacts. I have news to tell you." You haven't really met Mare yet. Sure she would smile at you or wave when you went to go see Colin during your lunch break, but other than that there was really no interacting. But if she was calling you this must be an emergency. "Is something wrong with Colin?" You asked as you began to pace around due to stress. "Yes, I'm afraid there is, he's been hurt." She said with a worried voice. "What happened?" You asked as you began to chew on your lip causing a bit of blood to form. "We were out investigating when someone shot him." She said, and you could hear the worry in her voice. It took a moment for it to sink in but once it did you couldn't help but break down crying. "Oh my god, is he going to make it?" You asked, trying to hide the fact that you were having a panic attack. "We're not sure, doctors are doing everything they can, he's in surgery right now." Mare said with a shaky voice. "I assume you are going to come here, we're at the hospital." She said even though that was obvious. "Yes, I'll be there soon." You hung up the call before sprinting to your car and sped down to the hospital. You didn't even think about locking your car or grabbing your phone, the only thing running in your head was Colin.
You rushed to the front desk and the receptionist greeted you. "Um, do you know what room Colin Zabel is in?" "The detective." She said with a frown at the sight of your tear stained face. "Yes he's in room twenty six, he just got out of surgery a few minutes ago. It's down the hall to your right." "T...thank you." You said, giving her a small rushed smile as you made a b-line to his room. As you approached the room you saw a doctor leave with a clipboard. Without thinking you approach the doctor. "Is he going to be okay?" You asked the doctor. "Who are you?" "I'm his girlfriend, is he going to be alright?" You ask and he gives you a small sympathetic smile. "We're doing what we can." He said, giving you the same response Mare did earlier on the phone. "Can I see him?" You asked hurriedly. "Yes, you may." The doctor gave you one more smile before leaving. With a sigh you opened the door to the room trying to hold back your tears.
Colin was hooked up to a machine and his face was covered in bandaids, well one side was. You assumed he got shot somewhere in the face which made your tears flow faster. The man you love with all of your heart was shot and could still possibly die. You sat in the armchair next to the bed Colin was asleep in. Right now he was asleep, he was still sleeping from the medicine they gave him before the surgery. A tear dropped down your face as you grabbed Colin's limp hand. You moved his hand toward your face before kissing each of his knuckles. "Please don't leave me, I need you." You carefully run a hand through his messy brown curls. You knew Colin couldn't hear you, but you needed to say something since the sadness in the room was depressing. Eventually you began to feel sleepy from all the crying and before you could process what was happening you fell asleep in the chair whilst holding Colin's hand in yours.
Finally after a few hours you awoke to the door creaking open, you squinted seeing a nurse come into the room with a smile. "Is he okay?" You ask with a yawn as you let go of Colin's hand. "Well, the test came back and he seems to be okay, we will have to keep him overnight for the next few days, but we have full confidence that he will recover." The nurse gave him a quick checkup before exiting the room. You grabbed his hand again and gave it a tight squeeze. You stared at him and felt the need to cry again, well that was until you felt his hand twitch. You look down at his hand before back toward his face. You watched as his eyes slowly opened to reveal his hazy mocha colored eyes. You backed away from him to give him his space as he woke up from his drug induced sleep. You watched with a teary smile as Colin looked over at you with a confused expression.
"What happened?" He asked, rubbing his forehead. You moved closer to him as he watched your every move. "You got shot, Mare told me everything." You said as you wiped your tears from your red puffy eyes. "I thought you were going to die." You said trying to not cry again. "Hey, hey, come here." He said as he sat against the pillow on the hospital bed. "Are you sure? I don't wanna hurt you?" You sniffled and he nodded. "Yes, I'll be fine. I just wanna hold you." You felt your heart flutter as you moved to sit next to him on the hospital bed. "I'm sorry this is happening." He said as he wrapped his arms around you weakly and kissed the top of your head softly. "It's not your fault." You said snuggling into his arms. "But it is, I should have seen the guy had a gun." Colin said, "but as usual I got cocky and thought I could handle it.
"Colin listen to me." You grabbed either side of his face gently. "This is not your fault, you were doing your job." You said as Colin wiped away the tear that was running down your cheek. "I know." He said. "You wanna know what I thought about right before I passed out?" He asked with a smile. "What?" You asked as he ran his hands through your hair. "You." He said simply and you smiled as you carefully hugged him closer, you were doing your best to not hurt him too much. "And also how you were going to yell at me if I lived." "Why would I yell at you?" "I thought you would think I was stupid for doing that, I was just trying to protect Mare, and that's when the guy pulled out a gun and well, you know the rest." He said resting his head on your shoulder. "I thought I was dead, and that I was going to lose you." He said as you heard his voice shake slightly. "You're not and you didn't lose me, I'm right here. You're gonna be okay." You turned around to face him and wiped a tear that leaked from his dark eyes. "I don't know what I would have done if I had lost you." You say. "I'm sure you would have found a way to manage." He smiled tiredly. "I love you." You said as Colin played with your hair. "I love you too, so much." He said as he leaned forward and placed a small kiss to your lips. You too cuddled up in the small bed together, Colin's arm pulled you tight against his chest. It hurt a bit but he didn't care. He was just happy that he was alive and wrapped up in his arms. You didn't realize how tired you were from all the crying you had done over the past few hours, so you immediately fell asleep as soon as your head rested on the pillow. You smiled knowing everything was going to be okay, and that Colin is going to be okay.
