Chapter 1:
My Dad's Dinner Party. (Ruined)
I wake to my dad shaking me slightly. "Happy fourteenth birthday, Autumn." I glance at my clock, it's 7:30. I sit up slowly. "Thanks Dad." He gives me a hug. "Come down after you're ready, I have a present for you."
He leaves the room quickly. It is really weird to have a famous actor as a dad, especially when it is an actor that many girls had a crush on. My dad is Tom Hiddleston. Yup, it is cool and weird. Many people don't believe me when I tell them though, so it is kind of a secret.
I quickly dress myself in my favourite grey skirt with white polka dots, and a fancy white shirt. I do my hair in a messy bun. I slip on my flats and run down the stairs. My dad is waiting at the bottom.
He holds out a gift. "You know I have a dinner party tonight," I nod. "Well since it's your birthday, I thought I'd let you come."
I rip the paper off the present. It is a sparkly, blue, one strap, dress with matching heels and earrings. I throw my arms around my dad's neck. "Thankyou, " I whisper. "Thank you!" We brake the hug, and Dad looks me in the eyes.
"The only rule I have besides being on your best behaviour is stay away from the alcohol." I smile. "I will. I promise."
He shoves a bag into my hand. "Here is your breakfast. Don't be late for school again, even though you can talk your way out of trouble. I have to get to work. " he kisses my forehead.
"Bye," I say. He winks and walks out the door. I open the bag to find a peach smoothie and a waffle. I eat quickly, then go to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
I sling my bag over one shoulder. Everything is in order for me to leave. I walk out fluttering inside with excitement. It takes only three minutes to get here. I walk through the doors of the junior high.
"Oh look. It's the loner." There was a group of girls snickering in the corner. Mackenzie stares me down. I hold back my anger. "Autumn! Come over here. I need to give you something!" She yells. I slowly walk, feeling uneasy.
She hands me a note. "Happy birthday. Oh, and stay away from him." She is a little brat! "Thanks," I say sarcastically. " Stay away from who now?" I ask even though I know the answer. She give a little huff of breath. "You know! Brandon! He is going to ask me out any day now!"
I shake my head. "You're not the kind of girl that he likes." She glares. "And I suppose that you are?" I decide that the conversation needs to end. "I don't know who he likes, and it is wrong to fight over a guy. It's not like we have a choice of who he dates." I walk away towards advisory.
Once I'm sitting I unfold the note.
Autumn,
We all hate you! You are such a low life. You only think you're cool because your dad is a famous movie star. We all know that it is a terrible lie. We can barely stand to be in the same room as you. You have a strange body odor. Stay away from us. We don't -
I was unable to finish. I wadded it up and threw it in the trash, tears stinging my eyes. After about ten minutes I shake it off. 'What a jerk.' I think to myself.
Fourth period rolls around. Mr. Sixhill's (my math teacher) lecture is long. And quite frankly very boring. "The equation to solve the area of a cube is base times height times width." I zone him out right then. I look over to see Brandon, my crush, passing me a note. I unfold it.
Autumn-
Meet me in the hall at 2:30.
Brandon
2:30! That was two minutes away. I need to come up with an excuse, and fast.
My hand shoots into the air. "Yes Autumn?" Mr. Sixhill says. "I really have to go!" I do not wait for permission get up to leave. Once I'm outside of the classroom I round a corner. Then Brandon comes into sight.
He walks towards me. "You've been ignoring me all day today." He says calmly. "Not on purpose!" I give him a hug. "Happy birthday, Autumn." He slips a box into my hand.
I open it with curiosity. It is a small blue bracelet. Underneath is a note. I put on the bracelet, then pick up the note. It reads -
We need to get you to Camp as fast as possible. Meet me in your front yard @ midnight.
-Brandon
"Camp? What camp?" But when I look up he is gone. "Brandon?" I whisper. There is no response so I head back to class. What did he mean? When I got back Brandon was nowhere in sight.
"Where's Brandon?" I whisper to Maralyn, the girl I sit next to. "Were you guys making out in the hall?" I shake my head. "Nope. That's just gross. I can't stand kissing!" She turns around, seeming pleased that we hadn't kissed. Apparently she likes him too.
I quickly gather my things. I left the classroom briskly. I walk down the hall, insults flying towards me. My walk quickens. I heave the heavy front door open. I am relieved to see Dad's car right up front. I jog to it.
"How was your day? "He asks. "Good," I lie. A little knot of guilt builds up in my chest. "As soon as we get home you need to get ready. The guests will be here in two hours." I nod. "I'll go do that."
We pull into the garage. Dad turns the car off. I get out, and quickly walk inside. When I get to my room I quickly change into the adorable dress. I curl my hair, then do my make up. When I'm done I look at the clock, it says 3:45.
I slip the heels on my feet, then rush down the steps. Dad was standing at the bottom. "You look absolutely amazing!" He exclaims. "Go wait in the dining room. The guests will be here any minute now."
Within minutes all the guests had arrived. The maids we hired for the night come out and serve us the first course. It was a salad. I picked at it slowly. The guests all talk to one another. Since I am not by Dad I don't really want to.
"Hello, young lady." A friendly voice says next to me. I turn to my left to see a young man smiling at me. "Hey." I say trying to sound casual. "How do you know Mr. Hiddleston?" He asks. "Ummm, I am his daughter." He gasps. "Really? I didn't know he had a daughter!" I smile. "Most people don't. And if they do they don't believe me"
I turn and take a bite of salad. 'This is actually pretty fun.' "So what is yo-" He is cut off. A winged lady bursts through the table, causing it to snap in half. The kind gentleman's chair, and three other's toppled over with a thud."Oh my pancake mix." I mutter. She looks around. Her gaze rests upon me.
"Autumn Hiddleston." Her raspy voice cracks. "We have been searching for you for a long time." Two other winged creatures burst into the room. "Wh-who are you?" I manage. "We are the three furies." I slowly back towards the door. They followed.
"What do you want with me?" I try my hardest to sound brave. My fingers touch the handle of the dining room. I glance around at the confused looks on the guests faces. "Haha," the fury laughs. "You already know the answer."
I slowly turn the knob silently. I thrust the door open, and sprint, occasionally tripping over my heels. They keep up really well. I round a corner towards the front door. I feel the fury's arms wrap around my waist.
My feet leave the ground. I scream a high pitched scream! I squirm, trying to wrench myself out of the fury's arms. Her grip tightens as they get higher. "Help!" I yell. The front door swings open. I cannot see who has entered. Suddenly the furry lets go. I drop, screaming as I plummet. I am caught in the arms of someone.
I look up to see Brandon. "You're early." I say. "I thought I should be. Lets get to camp. I'll answer all your questions on the way." He sets me down. "Go to the car. I'll be right there." I turn and run out the door. I hear the loud screeches from the furries.
Brandon sprints out of the house."Let's go!" He climbs in the driver's seat, and I the passenger's. I quickly buckle my seatbelt.
"Wait! Are you driving this thing?" I ask. "Yup." I gasp. "Are you even supposed to be driving?!" He laughs. "Nope. But that's what makes it fun!" He steps on the gas pedal, and we speed away.
