Wolfpaw entered the camp followed by a light brown tom, she held dock leaves in her jaws, her nose pointed to the sky with pride. The sun flashed in her eyes, catching her off guard as she was used to the shadows that the trees casted on ShadowClan territory.
"Thank you for bringing me, Bluefeather!" She thanked the warrior happily, the larger, fluffy tom nodded, unable to reply as he held a frog from the hunt. Wolfpaw's steps were quick as she walked across camp.
The clearing was filled with cats who were mostly sharing tongues. Those who weren't were doing their Clan duties or eating from the prey pile. As Wolfpaw was padding towards the medicine den, she heard the high pitched voice of her good friend.
"Hey, Wolfpaw! You're back!"
Kinkpaw bounded towards her with enthusiasm. Wolfpaw had grown up with him, and while they weren't related, she always thought of him as her brother.
"Yup!" She mumbled, still holding the bitter dock leaves. "I went out to fetch these, Loudrunner's orders."
Kinkpaw laughed, looking up at her. Wolfpaw was already a large apprentice due to her thick fur, but Kinkpaw's small frame made her look like a warrior.
"I don't know how you deal with him, he's a grouch!"
Wolfpaw giggled at Kinkpaw's response, her gaze met a figure standing outside of the medicine den. Her ears lowered, forgetting that she had a responsibility to fulfil and saying goodbye to Kinkpaw, running towards the impatient cat.
"I have the dock!" She smiled, attempting to ease the tom up.
"Finally." He waved his tail to the inside of the den. Wolfpaw entered, immediately greeted with the overwhelming scents of herbs that she is slowly getting used to. Her gaze met the spot for other dock leaves, noticing it was quite empty, and placed the ones she was holding. While doing so, the tall hairless cat spoke. "You have an important role in the Clan, you can't just walk off to talk to your friends without fulfilling your duties first."
"Sorry, Loudrunner, I got distracted."
He sighed, not making eye contact, but still looking to the clearing. "Of course you did."
There was a loud silence that filled the den, it caused Wolfpaw's heartbeat to quicken, she wasn't sure what her mentor was going to say, or if he was going to say anything at all. His voice broke the awkward silence between the two.
"Scorchstar received a prophecy from StarClan. He wants to talk to us about it."
Wolfpaw perked up with interest and curiously, she looked at him and got closer, wanting more information. "What was it about?"
Loudrunner's gaze didn't move off the clearing until he saw Frecklenose peek out of the leader's den with a nod towards him. "We're gonna find out. Come on." He twitched his head, signalling to Wolfpaw that they had to go speak to the leader about the prophecy.
Her heart raced with anticipation, excitement, and anxiety. What if it was a bad prophecy? What if it was about the destruction of the clan? What if it was about a clanmates death? She cycled through many What If's, most of them being irrational and a cause of her worry.
Loudrunner was the first to enter the den, Wolfpaw following close behind. It was small, compared to the other dens, but large for just one cat. Inside, Scorchstar and Frecklenose were already sitting, now waiting for the medicine cats to make themselves comfortable.
Wolfpaw studied Scorchstar's face, there was a shadow casting over his face, one that wasn't caused by lack of sunlight. That shadow hardly covered his apprehensive expression. As Loudrunner sat opposite of Scorchstar, Wolfpaw was right beside him, opposite of Frecklenose.
