Pre-Birthday Present

Lavender was living the life she had always wanted. She had just gotten into her dream university and was pursuing cinematography. Making documentaries on even the funniest and silliest things was her thing. From making short videos on youtube to editing popular YouTuber's videos was her bread and butter, or might I say, her new apartment now. She had just bought herself a new one. Everything was going as she planned.

A few days before her classes started, she was assigned the task of making a documentary on a children's book writer. Being excited for days, she was finally done with all the recording and was headed home. It was her birthday the next day. "I hope Nick has planned something for tomorrow," she thought, boarding the flight. Nick was her boyfriend. They had been dating for two years now. Although everything went downhill after their first anniversary, she was sure things would change when they moved in together. She had been planning on telling him that. Getting a new apartment with the S/O is what she always wanted. Nick had been staying at hers since his apartment was being remodeled. She was excited to see him.

As the flight arrives, an announcement is made of rain storms. Everybody is advised to buy an umbrella on the way out as it may get uglier. Lav grabs her bag and rushes out, not wanting to be any later than midnight. It was already 10 pm, and her house was one and half hours away. Her phone vibrates. It is her best friend.

Rene - Hey, when are you coming back?

Lav didn't want to tell her because she knew she would come to her apartment at 12. Spending time with Nick was all Lav wanted right now. Rene and Lav had been best friends since elementary school. But Rene had taken up a different course at another university. Nick, too was in the same university as Rene. Lav was happy that she could meet both of them at the same time now.

Lav texted Rene - tomorrow.

Rene - But the birthday!?

Lav - We will celebrate the whole next week.

Rene - yahoo!!!!

Lavender thought, "Nick hasn't even asked me where I am. Oh my gosh! It's going to be a surprise party". She was excited. Lav had already sent Nick her flight details. The messaging app showed read, but Nick hadn't replied to her. 

As she was entering the building, it started raining. She noticed someone struggling with the garbage. The cans were inside the building, but it was too windy to hold the bags. Lav went to help the man. The man looked at her in surprise. "So people in this building are helpful?" he smirked. Lav, who had encountered impolite people in the building, said, " Ya, there are a few humans left in this world of robots." He thanked her and introduced himself, "Hi! I am Lee Felix. I just moved in 706". 

Lav - Oh my god! You are the big plushie guy. I live in 707. We are neighbors! I am Lavender. 

Felix - Hi Lavender. Wait, so who is occupying your apartment right now.

Lav - Oh, that must be my boyfriend, Nick. 

Felix - So the guy staying in is not your brother?

Lav - What is that supposed to mean?

Felix stops walking and grimly looks at her.

Felix - I don't think you should come back today. 

Lav -  what? What do you mean?

Felix - Um, so, um...how long have you been out?

Lav - From the day you shifted.

Felix - So a week.

Lavender tried to go to the elevator. 

Felix - Please don't. 

Lav - Look, if you have something to say, say it. You are freaking me out, acting all creepy.
