Miranda sat at her desk going over financial reports, department requests and other important but boring documents. She loved being chief but most times it took away from her being able to do what she loved the most which was surgery.
She was able to help when a trauma came into the emergency room. A MVC involving a mom, her three children and a elderly man. As Miranda operated on the mom she felt sad thinking about this happening to her and her three children this close to Christmas. The elderly man had Alzheimer's so he couldn't remember what side of the road he was supposed to drive on. They were waiting for family to show up looking for him.
Miranda finished the surgery and went back to her office to finish some work before she checked on her patients then went home. When Miranda got home she was so grateful for the warmth her home provided. She took off her coat and went straight to the bedroom to shower and put on comfy clothes.
Miranda really wanted to go out in the backyard and sit by the fire pit that Ben had built two months ago. Miranda walked into the kitchen to make some hot chocolate. She decided to make enough for when Ben came home. She looked at the picture of their daughter on the counter and smiled. She use to not like looking at Daniella's pictures because it made her sad. But because of Ben she started to embrace having pictures around and not being so sad about it. After she made the hot chocolate, she wrapped a big blanket over her shoulders and walked into the backyard. Miranda turned on the fire pit, sat down in the large comfy chair and just stared at the flames as she sipped her hot chocolate. She was so glad she had a man that was multitalented and could build almost anything.
Miranda just sat there letting her thoughts run free until she thought about nothing at all. She was just enjoying her surroundings until she heard the back door open. She looked up and saw Ben walking slowly towards her. She knew that walk meant that he was tired. Just like she knew he would, he had the cup of hot chocolate she made in hand. Miranda quickly unwrapped herself and opened the blanket, allowing Ben to get in and cuddle with her as they looked at the fire pit.
"Had a long day baby?" Miranda asked.
"A lonnnggg day baby, I'm so glad to be home and not having to work tomorrow," Ben replied.
"That means we can spend the day Christmas decorating and getting ready for our trip to Seattle. Tuck is so excited and he wants us to meet his new girlfriend," Miranda said as she rubbed Ben's chest.
"Yeah when we were on the phone several weeks back he was telling me about a girl that he was really into and excited about getting to know," Ben said.
"I never thought that I would be one of those mothers but I hope he found the one because I'm excited about grandchildren. At least one grandchild anyway so that I could spoil him or her at Christmas time," Miranda said staring at the fire pit.
Ben wrapped her leg around his waist and rubbed her leg and foot. "Well we could always ask my sister if we could keep Gia sometimes," Ben suggested.
"And I'm sure they would oblige but it wouldn't be the same because they'd want their baby for Christmas. I remember how fun it use to be shopping for Tuck at Christmas. Doing all the little fun, kid activities and then seeing his face on Christmas morning. It was the one time me and Tucker worked hard to get along so he could have a wonderful Christmas. I just miss that feeling," Miranda expressed.
"Well we will just have to create that with each other. Or if it's the children you want we could foster or adopt," Ben suggested again.
"I don't know Benjamin, raising another kid would be a lot, especially at our age. And we are busy individuals," Miranda contemplated.
"This is true but I know we could make it work and a child deserves the love and care we offer," Ben shared.
"I still have the those moments where I wonder what it would've been like to raise our daughter. Just the other day I thought about what it would have been like do all the things you mentioned with her at Christmas. It makes me sad when I think about it. And I know she would've been a grown woman now but I can only see her as a baby or little girl," Ben expressed.
