"Loving is like playing with cards. In order to win, you have to bet."
I snorted at the quote Linda suggest for our Valentine's booth. Tomorrow will be February 14 and a Saturday too so the valentine booth will surely be a good thing to spice up the night.
"Oh, come on! You didn't even give a single quote and you are laughing at mine?!" I just zipped my mouth and wrote it down.
It's already 4am and I am still here at Bob's since Bob asked me to render overtime tonight. It's really not a problem since it would mean extra income and more tips.
Although he would understand if I tell him I have some school works I need to finish on Sundays. Despite appearances, Bob is actually a kind and understanding boss to us and he's one reason why I like my job here.
"Hey, are you almost done with that? I'll be done in here in 5 minutes."
Henry was busy checking the stocks of drinks for tonight's ending inventory while Linda and I are sitting here at the table cutting some colored papers for the design and decors of the booth. We will put the booth outside tomorrow so those friends and couples who want a valentine picture can stand under it and take a shot.
There are some post-it notes too where they can write quotes or letters to their crushes or love ones.
Linda said the other bars are not usually doing something like this but Bob is really just sentimental. I laughed at that because...seriously? A Valentine booth at the bar?
I bet they would take a shot with all their drunk faces on it!
"Yes, let's just head out together like the usual."
After putting the booth carefully to the side, we went upstairs to log out for tonight's duty then we went out.
Henry rode in a trike as usual since his place is not within walking distance, and Linda walked with me towards our apartment.
"What do you think of the booth?"
I thought about her question for a moment. " Well, it's pretty good. The paper roses were cute and the balloons too. But I wonder if those drunkards would notice it. "
She chuckled at my comment. "Yeah, well at least with some of them at the booth, it will lessen the crowd inside a little. It's very suffocating when it gets too crowded."
"I don't know what they would get in going in their, aside from lung and liver cancer. Good thing I only work two days a week or I will never survive."
Linda looked at me and her face became serious. I pretended I did not notice her change of mood and just continued walking without looking at her.
"You can quit if you feel that you can't take it anymore. Bob's is truly a great place if you want money, but I just feel like you actually don't need this job and you can survive without it."
"No, I need this job. My school expenses are really huge especially now that I am doing my thesis." I briefly explained to her, clearly evading the topic about my life. Ever since she saw Lars visit me a month ago with a shining black Audi R8 and with two other cars with his body guards, she has been asking me about my past. But I just shut the topic off or pretend I did not hear her.
She stopped talking to me after that. Maybe she sensed that my life is a sensitive topic for me.
We continued walking in silence but as our apartment came into view, a familiar black car was parked at the side of the street in front of my gate.
"Seems like you have a visitor."
