We drove for thirty-seven minutes into a park we couldn't recognize. "Bring your book, Ethan." Mrs. Lydia whispered. "Where are we?" Ethan asked while grabbing the book out of the car. Dad and Mrs.Lydia were walking, almost jogging into the woods of this strange park. Luke and Isobel were both very nervous. They were walking very timidly down the hill. Ethan and I were very excited and curious. We ran down the hill as fast as we could. " Hurry kids, hurry!" I couldn't tell if it was Dad or Mrs. Lydia. When Luke and Izzy got down the hill, Izzy was crying. "It's okay Isobel. There is nothing to be afraid of." Dad said in the calmest voice ever. "I'm, not afraid. I just tripped and fell and ripped my hundred dollar jeans!" Izzy was in ultimate panic mode. "Really Izzy, really?" Mrs. Lydia asked sarcastically.
When we got to the bottom of the hill, Dad said "Hold hands, oldest to youngest." Luke reached for Dads hand, but he backed away. Luke was very perplexed. "Only the children can hold hands, Luke. You will see why in a few minutes." "Lydia answered to Luke's telepathic question. Once Ethan had grasped my hand, Dad and Lydia slowly back away from us. We couldn't see very well because the sun was going down.
I could see a figure in the distance. Isobel saw it too. It seemed to be riding a bicycle. It came upon us and spoke " Hello children. My name is Thomas Grant. I see you have found my book!" I swear he sounded just like Morgan Freeman. " Who brought you here? Lydia, Oliver, Victor, or Ellen?" said Thomas Grant. "Lydia and Oliver Mr. Thomas Grant Sir!" Ethan said like a drill sergeant. "Please, call me Tom. Let's get down to business. Who found the book?" Ethan was shaking out of excitement. "I did Mr. Thomas Gra-Tom, I mean." Ethan replied, handing Tom the book. "Okay. Please tell me tell me your names in order of oldest to youngest." Demanded Tom.
Luke shyly walked up to the man. He said " My name is Luke and I am 16 years old." Tom wrote down the letter L. "Next!" " My name is Isobel and I am 15 almost 16." "Thank you. Next!" "My name is Violet and I am 12." Thank you. Hello Ethan." was Tom's response. " How do you know my name Sir?" Ethan asked inquisitively. " You are the book finder. That is how. Anytime someone touches my book, my second oldest treehouse club members come and tell me. They are very good friends of yours. Try to guess." Tom replied to our curious little Ethan. "Sarah and Jo? Luke asked. "Pete and Donna?" Izzy asked. "Our parents? I asked. "None of you are correct. If Ethan guesses correctly, you will continue with our procedure. If not, the initials are gone form the treehouse and will not be played in.Ever." All pressure was on our sweet Ethan. He seemed totally calm for a kid who knew if he got the answer wrong he would be responsible for the reason why we do not have a treehouse anymore. He was playing with his fingers, almost as if he were not here. We were quiet for a few minutes, then he looked up and asked "Has anybody guessed correctly yet? I know the answer! Can I go now?" "Yes Ethan! its been your turn." Izzy and Luke narrowed in on Ethan. "No pressure Ethan, but you have only three words to save ourselves from our treehouse of generations and generations to come. Good luck!" Luke whispered, and gave Ethan and Izzy a hug, so I had to join in! Ethan stood up and said, "Mary and Rose. Duh. I am very surprised no on else guessed that!" Ethan said cheerfully. "Congratulations, you are keeping your treehouse. For now anyway. You must talk to all of the alive previous Book Keepers, other wise known as Treehouse Club Members. They also go by TCM. Anyway, Ethan, I declare you the Book Finder. That means you found the book, and you have also become the Book Keeper. You must keep this book safe with your life. Do you understand? Good."
Ethan, Luke, Izzy and I sat on the floor. We were completely stunned. How could this be realistic? Why us and our families? Goodness Gracious! Then, Tom went away, riding his bike he appeared in. Dad and Mrs. Lydia saw us and smiled. Ethan ran up to his mom and started to cry. "What' wrong Ethan?" No response was given. To this day, we never knew what was wrong.
