'Father wants me to marry' she said sorrowful.

She smelled like flowers. She always did, but just then it hit me really hard. I loved flowers. They were happy and hopeful. They were a sign of the spring, a sign of a fresh start. Flowers were one of my favourite things.

'I assume not with me' I joked, hoping to rise her spirits.

'No' she gave me a sad smile and sighed, 'what's to come of me, married to a man, all alone all day'

'I could dress up as your maidservant and keep you company' I winked.

She didn't laugh. Her expression went from desire and hope to sorrow and regret. I knew what she was thinking of, I was reliving the same memory.

There was a moment where we wanted to run away to wherever, to live our happy ever after. We didn't. I think it was best that way. We weren't ready by then. Not ready to look after each other. Not ready to look after ourselves. We were young and naïve, we didn't know the cruelty of this world we live in.

We were ready now, but now is too late.

'And, who's the lucky one?' my voice was cold, I wish I didn't sound so, so, so unlike the happy minded me she knew.

'It isn't decided yet. Father wants them to compete for my hand'

'When will it be?'

'In a month, Father invited princes and knights from all over the world'

'And what if I would defeat them all?' I said it playfully, but I was dead serious.

'You wouldn't, would you?'

She always worried, worried about me, about my safety.

'Who do you think I am? Risking my life and dignity for your happiness?'

'You're going to do it anyway, aren't you?'

'Of course not! Not if my Lady told me not to!'

I sent her a wink, and I was gone.
