Evelyn and James were waiting for Dad to get home with big news. Evelyn was reading a book, while James was making dream catchers. "James what are you doing?" Evelyn asked. "Making dream catchers," James said. "Well, it's disturbing my reading," Evelyn said rudely. "Do I care? No." James said mockingly. Just then, Mom came in. "What are you two fighting about now?" She asked. "Evelyn is yelling at me!" James shouted. "Evelyn why are you yelling at your brother?" Mom said. "But I didn't yell at him!" Evelyn shouted. "Now, now Evelyn, no need to shout." Evelyn stood quiet.
Evelyn ran outside and sat on the porch. "Why am I unappreciated! Just because I'm the oldest of the family, doesn't mean I need to get to be treated unfairly!" Evelyn said, with her head in her hands and her hands to her knees, sobbing, letting all her tears and emotions fall down.
Just as she was letting herself cry her heart out, her mom came outside and sat next to her. "I made spaghetti and meatballs today." Her mom said. Mom knew spaghetti was Evelyn's favorite meal. "I don't want any!" Evelyn said trying to hold back her sniffles and tears. "Listen, I'm your mother, I have a job you know?" Mom said. "You don't have a job! You don't get paid! You don't have to stay away from us, working for hours and hours! You're not dad!" Evelyn said crying hard and screaming louder. "Evelyn, I have the most important job any other mother can have." Evelyn's mother sighed. "who cooks for you?" "You do" "Who cleans for you?" "You do." "who takes care of you and loves you more than anything else in the world?" "You do." Evelyn sighed. "exactly,now go inside for your dinner." "okay."
