Angsty. Kinda.

Reader X Zion

Basically Scarlett gets bitten and you make a promise to protect Zion.

———————————————————————

It was an accident. Zion didn't mean to. Me and Scarlett know that.

We weren't watching behind us.

It all happened so fast.

I just heard Scarlett's scream followed up by rushed footsteps.

Zion killed the zombie quickly with a metallic bang.

He dropped his pipe and fell to his knees next to Scarlett.

She kept apologizing. As if it was her fault. They couldn't stop apologizing to each other. My throat clogged as I stumbled over towards them.

Without hesitation I watched as Zion picked her up bridal style and carry her towards the school.

He must've been moving on auto pilot. He was shaking and his eyes were unfocused.

"Zion. We can't take her back to the school."

He gave no response. Scarlett's eyes were shallow and lifeless.

"Zion. You can't bring her back. Put her down."
I could hear the nervousness  in my voice.

"There's- there's gotta be a way-"

"Zion. We can't bring her back. The others will kill her."

"No! No they wouldn't!- there's gotta be a way to help her! She can't just die ."
The look in his eyes rugged at my heart.
There's no way I could just bring them back looking like this.

He's covered in her blood and Scarlett could turn into a zombie any moment.

"Zion. I have a plan. We can help her."
He looked at me the same way when we found out about the safe zone.

"Let's take her to that building over there."

It looked abandoned enough. I remember Lawrence made a map of what buildings were clear.

That motel was one of them.

We staggered towards the motel. I could hear Scarlett's muttering from a few feet away.

She doesn't have long left.

I make sure the coast is clear before ducking into one of the rooms.

Making sure there was no zombies in the closets or under the bed I signaled Zion to come into the room.

The key was conveniently placed on the bedside table. The owner must've left in a hurry.

Zion placed her in the bathtub sitting her in a comfortable position. One foot was hanging out of the tub. Her head leaning on the edge of the tub and the wall.

I whipped my sweaty hands on my pants.
Zion was seated on the bathroom floor next to her holding her hand.

She was starting to pale and turn more purple by the second.
