You and Ei left the festival shortly after, grabbing drinks from the bar before completely ditching the area. Ei had a new idea, getting ahold of your hand and leading you to Liyue Harbor. As you entered the dock, you slightly pulled your hand back in confusion.
"Trust me on this one," she said, turning back to look at you. She continued pulling you her way, until you were met with a small boat floating idly in the water. She waved you over, helping you in. After getting in herself, Ei began to use the paddles to move the boat. After going for a few minutes, she rested the oars into their place. You looked around to see nothing but water surrounding the two of you, as the moonlight reflected onto the water. Ei's face glowed in the light, as she turned around to look at you. She sat in front of you, only a few inches away as she intertwined her legs with your legs. Ei looked into your eyes, gently holding your hands.
"I've been meaning to ask you something," she quietly said. She fidgeted with nervousness, as you anticipated her next words.
"Is something wrong?"
"No," she quickly replied, taking a deep breath before she continued.
"I was serious earlier, you know."
You though back to what she could've been talking about, making you scrunch your face in confusion.
"When I said I wanted to marry you," she breathed out, making your breathing come to a stop. You wondered if she was about to propose, as your cheeks felt hot. You began imagining your life with Ei, while you also imagined the possibilities. Your heart condition could come back, possibly killing you. Even if you remained healthy, you would eventually pass on and Ei would be alone for another thousands of years. It was the only downside to her immortality. You frowned, looking down at your intertwined hands.
"I know what you're thinking, [name]," she said, making you raise your head to look at her. Her excited expression confused you for a second, as she looked hopeful.
"Miko has found a way to grant immortality to humans."
Your eyes widened, as you began to process her words. You knew that Miko was an extremely brilliant individual, but you weren't aware that was even possible in Teyvat.
"Before I continue, there's a catch."
Of course, you thought.
"The only requirement is that your soul has to be bound to another, rendering you incapable of literally not being able to live without someone else," she explained.
"Can't I just bound my soul to you-"
"Nope. That's the catch. It has to be someone other than me, which may feel weird at times."
Hearing her words, you began to mark off a list of people that could be potential candidates. Lumine would be a good choice, but given her dangerous adventures, it may be wise to stay clear of someone who gets hurt all the time. Amber and you are close, but you haven't seen her in a few months, so she may not instantly accept the position.
"What about Miko?" You asked, thinking that she would be a good candidate. She was an envoy, meaning she was also immortal, though she wasn't an archon.
"I suppose that would work, but I don't know how it would make me feel," she replied with a small laugh, thinking of her relationship with Miko. She knew that Miko was always flirtatious with you, and slightly feared that it may be taken a step further.
"I can think of someone else, I'm sure," you said, trying to reassure her that you did not have bad intentions thinking of Miko. You began thinking a second time, coming up empty minded.
"No, Miko will work fine," Ei said, "She's just a flirty person. As long as you promise not to cheat on me."
You laughed, leaning in to kiss Ei. She gladly accepted your affection, smiling as she cupped your cheek with her hand.
"I think you forgot to ask me something," you quietly said, looking into her eyes.
"Seems I did, didn't I?"
A silence began the two of you, as Ei tried to muster up the courage to ask the big question. You patiently waited, holding her hands. The moonlight began to dim, as she sun peered over the ocean. A pink glow overtook the side of Ei's face, along with yours. Hours seemed to go bye as you two sat comfortably in silence, only feeling each other in the moment.
"Marry me, [name]."
