"Helloooo?" Y/n called out into the empty building, not expecting an answer. Like all of the buildings she'd searched over the years, it was crumbling to the ground, the door swinging on its hinges, debris littered everywhere. This one seemed a lot more intact than the last few she'd visited. However in this particular building, a family of racoons had apparently built their nest here. The biggest one hissed at her from on top a table, before scampering off to watch her warily from a corner.

A faded red-and-yellow sign hung on the moss-covered wall behind a counter. McPuffy's, it read.

This was a fast food place, she realised as she looked behind the counter and saw countless wrappers. It looked as though whoever was in here last grabbed as many 'provisions' as they could in their haste to escape Doomsday.

Y/n leapt over the countertop and explored the kitchen, before finding what she needed: A first aid kit, perfect.

She applied a fresh bandage over the now freshly bleeding wound before stashing the rest of the contents of the kit in a pouch in her satchel.

She exited the restaurant, and sat against the mossy wall.

What I wouldn't give for a cheeseburger right now.

It had been ages since she'd found any decent food, 'decent' being some emergency rations of tinned beans.

She dug through her satchel before finding an apple; one of the few things that she could find almost anywhere.

Three years of walking around the same old town and you'd think she was ready to move on.

Well, she wasn't. She still wanted answers.

What was the purpose of Doomsday? Why did it happen? Who was responsible? What happened to my family?

In the two years between Doomsday and the first night she slept alone, she'd been safe. She had shelter, food, friends. From what she was told, Doomsday had been nothing more than a political debate gone wrong. Y/n suspected at the time that there was more to it than that, but she was only 12, what was she supposed to do?

Making the decision to leave that place was the hardest thing she had to do. But she knew it was for the better.

Y/n got up, throwing her apple core somewhere deep into the thicket of tangled plants that had long overgrown, before setting off.
