Perfect Fit

After the revelation that Lilly had been living right next to a gay werewolf couple for who knows how long, life continued on as normal. As the weather got hotter Wren stared spending evenings, after sunset, gardening, this had the added benefit that Lilly could join in a fully solid form.

"Lilly," Wren asked on one such night, "How do you wear... ghost clothes?"

Lilly sat on a stone bench watching Wren dig, she was wearing a tiered shin length skirt with a 1920's neckline, both she and the dress were slightly transparent and had a shimmering purple tint.

Lilly shrugged gracefully, "I appear however I perceive myself. I look how I think I look, and I wear whatever 'ghost clothes' I think I would wear."
"Very convenient," Wren nodded sagely, "What is your opinion on tomatoes?"

Lilly laughed, "I hate tomatoes, from the bottom of my soul."

"Opps," Wren said looking at the freshly turned soil she had just planted.

Lilly laughed again, "You can just eat my share. And how do you feel about peaches?"

Wren grinned, "I can't stand them. So, you eat the peaches and I get the tomatoes! See, we're a perfect fit!"

Dusk settled around the garden. The two women went walking arm in arm through the aisles of plants. They talked about nothing and everything. Eventually Lilly asked, "do you know how to dance?"

Wren grinned, "not at all. Why? Do you want to dance?"

Lilly smiled sheepishly, "you know, its funny; I never liked dancing when I was alive... I just want to dance with you."

Wren gave Lilly an enchanted look and said, "well... I might know the basics of a waltz."

Lilly grinned this time, "I don't know how to waltz either; they were considered scandalous when I learned to dance."

Wren smiled slightly smugly, "in that case it levels the playing field," she pulled her cellphone out, and selected a waltz at random, as the first notes started she tuned back to Lilly, "allow me to scandalized you?"

Lilly took the proffered hand with delight, Wren was strong, solid, and warm, but she also had no clue what she was doing. The two stumbled around the garden together laughing and tripping as the songs slid past them.

Eventually the music slowed and quieted leaving Wren and Lilly cradling each other and swaying slightly in the middle of the garden.

"Lilly," Wren said quietly, "can it stay like this forever?"

Lilly nodded, "I would like that very much."

Wren tensed against her then asked, "Lilly, will you be my girlfriend?"

Lilly nodded again, "I would like that even more."

Wren smiled against her shoulder and the two stood like that for an indeterminable amount of time. The moment came to an end when the music changed; the Voices of Spring waltz thundered into existence so suddenly that Wren jumped, and Lilly clipped out of substantiability for a second. The combination of the jump, the surprise, and the loss of support caused Wren to sit down hard on the ground. The women looked, wide eyed, at each other for a second as the music soared on around them, then burst out in peals of laughter.

By the time they stumbled their way home it was well past full dark, and Wren collapsed exhausted into bed, dragging Lilly with her. Lilly didn't sleep but she was more than happy to lay there and enjoy the feel of soft blankets and warm skin while Wren snored into her shoulder.
