It's been a week since the final battle with Gaea. Everyone at camp was still healing from the damage done. Cabins were being rebuilt and the rubble of the war swept up. But there was always that cloud hanging overhead, the loss of so many demigods; especially Leo. Every once in a while, the seven and I, well the seven except Leo, would get together and talk about our journey. We would tell funny stories about Leo, trying to come up with something cheesy like he would say. I was the only one to come close to imitating something, but it wasn't the same. Nico and Hazel told all of us that they felt his death, that there was no possible way he could come back, so after a while I began to stop searching the sky for a glittering bronze dragon.
I could tell what an impact Leo's death had been for all of us. He was our Commander Tool Belt, Mr. McShizzle man, our Bad Boy Supreme. We all tried to be positive, focus on here and now, but I still mourned my friends death. Sometimes it would even ruin my alone time with Annabeth, that and our recount of our time in the great, smelly abyss- Tartarus. Sometimes it was all I could do not to break down. Everything that we experienced over the past couple of years was like a big pair of scissors, cutting through the rope holding my self control. I'm glad there was no one in my cabin to hear me when I finally couldn't hold it anymore. Sometimes Annabeth would come spend some time with me and we would take turns holding each other while we cried. It was terrible. Like I had a mini Tartarus inside me, a giant abyss that showed visible hole.
But I couldn't think about that now, I was trying to help Nico with the Hades Cabin. It was number one on his list. It still looked decently the same on the outside, solid obsidian with green torches that blazed 24/7. But the inside was much different. It still had the little table embedded with gemstones that acted as a shrine to Hades. But now the walls were made from white quarts marbled with black. I was in the process of heaving a black wooden plank for the bunk beds inside the cabin when Nico called, "Percy! Do you think the bed sheets should be purple or white?" Ever since he took charge of the Hades Cabin renovation he has been like this, 'should it be this color or that?' or 'bone or wood?' I was usually the target of these questions because I had been helping him with the cabin. I called back "I don't care Nico! It's your bed!" He came over from the back corner of the room so he could look me in the face. "Well what would you want if you slept here?" I replied "Well I don't sleep here so what would I know? But I would want it to be blue if this were my cabin."
"You already have a blue cabin Percy. And what if you wanted to have a sleepover?" With that last sentence a small smile crept across his lips. Ever since he told me he used to have a crush on me I had been wary of him and wondered if his affection still hung on at the back of his mind. He was always teasing me about it. It was so embarrassing.
"Nico! I'm not ever going to have a sleepover in your 'Lord of Creepy' cabin."
"Hey! My dad isn't creepy!"
I gave him a really? look.
"Not that creepy!" He said. "But that's not the point! What color should the sheets be?"
I'm not getting out of this am I. "White. The bed frames are already black."
"Thank you!" He said, exasperated.
He walked away to go do whatever he was going to do while I finished dragging the black wood for the bunk beds inside. That was all he had asked me to do, so now I decided I was free to go find Annabeth. We could maybe go down the the canoe lake and hang out for a while. I walked over to her cabin and just as I had suspected she was on her new laptop. Ever since Daedalus's laptop fell into Tartarus she has been recreating as many things as she could remember. She also had a new bronze knife strapped to her thigh. She didn't even look up when I came in.
"Annabeth?"
" hmmm?"
"Do you want to hang out for a while?"
"That's great Percy" she never looked up from her screen.
Then I got an idea, " Maybe I should just go hang out on the beach with Rachel"
Only then did she look up , "Why her!?"
"Well you are obviously to busy to go hang out with your boyfriend so-"
She sighed. "Percy I'm sorry, I just want to get everything down before I forget. Daedalus's laptop was full of amazing things and now it's gone, probably somewhere in-" she gulped. I knew what she was thinking about. Bringing up Tartarus always brought along our worst memories. Neither of us would ever forget that trip.
"Oh all right" she said.
I smiled, she closed the laptop and stood up. "Shall we?" She said holding out her hand.
