Yuma's p.o.v
I help Enji set up dinner. He's making steak tonight. I handle the side dish.
"How's it coming along over there kid?"
"Almost done."
"Perfect." We plate up and sit at the table.
"Hey dad." I grab his attention but my heart starts to race.
"Yeah?"
"I was wondering if I could go out with a friend from school tonight." I couldn't have that conversation with him. I decide to text a friend seeing if she'll let me hang out.
"What friend?"
"Ayaka."
"Ayaka what?"
"Ayaka Tanaka."
"I guess so just please be safe and come home before eleven. If you need a ride call me."
"I will." Ayaka agrees to hang out at her place. We eat dinner and I head over. Ayaka has booze set out. My stomach feels like it's gonna come out of my mouth. I want to quit all this but my friends don't want me to. I don't want to fight with her so I sit down next to her and she hands me a cup. "So how was your week?"
"Shit. Up until now. My parents are out for the weekend though so why not enjoy it?" I nod taking a sip from the cup. "I also invited everyone else." We talk while waiting for everyone. I know I should call Enji now but if I do I'll be a social outcast in my own friend group. One by one everyone starts to show up and things start getting wild. People everywhere, drugs, alcohol, the whole nine yards. I participate until things get fuzzy I go up to Ayaka's room before Ayaka comes to check on me.
"I brought you some things from downstairs. I thought maybe you'd like it more if it was just me and you." I indulge a bit knowing if I say no she'll get upset. Everything gets really really fuzzy now. I've done too much. After what feels like just a few seconds I know I should call Enji. I get up and turn to Ayaka.
"Where is my phone it should be in my pocket."
"On the floor. With the rest of your stuff." I mindlessly get my clothes on and fish my phone out of my pocket before heading to the front porch to call Enji.
"Yuma! Where are you? You didn't call telling me you were gonna be late."
"I'm late?" I check the time. It's one in the morning. "No way it was only nine when I went upstairs."
My brain finally processes the steps I took to get my phone. I start crying. "Please come pick me up. I'm so fucking stupid and I can't walk home."
"You still at Ayaka's?"
"Yeah."
"I'm on my way bud. Okay?" He sounds worried I think. I wait here until I see his car pull up. He picks me up and helps me into the back. "There is a bucket on the seat next to you. I brought some water and snacks just in case."
"I'm so sorry dad. I really am. I just don't want to lose my friends because I'm boring to them."
"If it takes drugs and shit for you to be likeable to them they aren't worth the effort. I don't want to lose my son this way. I don't want to lose my son period but definitely not this way. You mean everything to me." My dad gets in the front and starts to drive off.
"I'm scared dad."
"Why?"
"Had to get dressed to grab my phone."
"What does that mean Yuma?"
"I went upstairs and laid down on Ayaka's bed fully clothed. I woke up I think fully naked." He takes a turn that doesn't lead home.
"We are going to do something Yuma okay?"
"Okay."
"What do you mean by you think you woke up?"
"It was more of I came to because I don't remember opening my eyes. Everything went from being really really fucked up and fuzzy to my usual."
"Can you take off your pin and put it right there." I do as he says. "You haven't showered or anything have you?"
"No. Why?"
"Good. Those are the clothes you left in I'm assuming."
"Yeah. I didn't bring my bag."
"Okay."
"Dad what's going on?"
"I'm doing something my parents should have for me when I was younger. Im doing something that would have prevented your fathers trauma from getting worse."
"What?"
"I'm taking you to get rape tested."
"You can do that on men?"
"Yes. It's different from testing a woman but it's possible. I did it for all my boys after I heard some extremely worrisome shit come out of Shoto's mouth when he was little."
"What was that situation?"
"My kids babysitter at the time would take Touya to a private room and tell the younger ones to stay away until she came to get them. Touya would apparently always come back silent, shaking, and crying. Natsuo would always come back iced over and the babysitter would have little nics and cuts. Shoto never got taken back. He said he was jealous and he wanted to play in the private room with his brothers. Shoto never understood what happened to his brothers in that room. He probably still doesn't unless his brothers told him."
"They've never told me about that."
"It messed them up. Natsuo is just much better at hiding it."
"What about Benji and August?"
"Benji always stayed with a friend and August is one of my eldest so he just always did his own thing."
"April and Autumn?"
"Autumn always followed around her brother August for clothing ideas while April was always up in her room doing that stuff."
"Like Autumn is now?"
"Yeah. Traveling the world with her brother and his band designing their costumes for their shows."
"Why did you hurt your kids?"
"In all honesty Yuma? I didn't."
"What?"
"It was my brother. Their uncle. I was so tired of being the fuck up that when my dad saw the bruises on my family he was so proud of me. He thought I had finally grown up to be a man just like him. I didn't have the heart to correct him that my brother was sleeping with my wife and felt it was his job to beat my kids so I beat his ass. My dad had finally smiled at me instead of raising his fist."
"So why do your kids seem so scared of you!"
"They saw me beating the shit out of my brother after he hit Shiro. I couldn't control myself I had to protect my kids after everything that had happened to them. They got scared of what I could do."
"Why did Rei burn Shoto then?"
"She got mad I wouldn't allow my brother over anymore and to take it out on me she poured the kettle of boiling hot water on Shoto's face."
"The training?"
"I did train my kids for a short while overly yes. As soon as Touya's skin started to burn and Shoto started to vomit I stopped."
"Why don't you correct people then?"
"They cops took my statements looked at my security cams and confirmed that I never hurt my kids like that. Hence why I never got jail time. Unfortunately that's not good enough for people so I don't bother. I don't need my kids being bombarded with their trauma so for their mental health I just keep my mouth shut unless they open theirs first."
"Oh."
"We're here bubbas." He helps me inside and deals with the front desk. A tall Russian that looks strangely like my bio dad takes me and Enji back.
"What's your name Young man?"
"Yuma Ray-Toshinori."
"Do you have a middle name?"
"No sir."
"Are you on anything medication, drugs, alcohol, anything like that?"
"Cocaine and booze."
"Thank you for being honest."
"Will I get in trouble?"
"Can't get you in trouble for using just possession. Do you have any on you?"
"No. Not that I know of." I check my pockets. "Okay I was right."
"Do you know anything that might have happened?"
"Not really. Everything was extremely fuzzy and woozy."
"That's alright. I need to to get undressed and put this on. I'll leave the room and come back when you're done."
"Can I get your name first. I'd prefer to know your name before I eventually expose myself to you."
"My name is Yaroslav. You can call me Yaro if that's easier."
He leaves the room and I change. My dad lets him know he can come back in.
"I'm gonna make some conversation so this isn't as awkward. I find it helps a lot of patients. Actually would your prefer a female or?"
"No."
"Okay just checking."
"So how old are you Yaro?"
"I am thirty two. What about you?"
"I'm sixteen."
"Jeez you're young."
"I know I get that a lot."
"So what go you into drugs?"
"I don't remember to be honest. Probably just thought it would help me not remember everything that happened to me. Instead I got addicted and started having extreme night terrors."
"Yeah that can happen. Drugs don't really help permanently. Some even say they don't help at all."
"Obviously because here I am having a random man I just met today taking samples off my naked body because I might have gotten well yeah."
"I'll take these and these down to the lab."
"Wait you're taking my clothes?"
"I have to. DNA of the perpetrator could be on your clothes. It could help a whole bunch if anything were to come of this."
"Wait!"
"Yes?"
"What if they got pregnant with my kid from it?"
"Since you were vigilant and came here if they did end up pregnant you could end up getting the child. Unless you don't want it."
"Would hero pin footage count as evidence?"
"Yes. If you have it take it to the police asap. Not only can you charge them but if they were to end up with child you'd automatically get the child."
"Really?"
"As long as the kid is yours. That is the simple version though. You'd probably have to get clean, proof of income, proof of stable housing, go through a lot of hoops so they can make sure the child would benefit more from being in your care than being adopted by someone else."
"Can I keep my pant and shirt?"
"Yup I'm just taking a sample from the undergarment that's all."
"Why isn't a cop doing this?"
"That's also a little complicated. These situations as a whole are complicated. In most cases especially with teen boys or just men in general it's just pushed off as oh he probably wanted it but his parents found out and he cried assault or he's a man he's much bigger and stronger why didn't he just fight her off? When in reality especially now with quirks and stuff fighting isn't gonna work. There are strength quirks, restraint quirks, speed quirks, invisibility quirks, shape shifting, decay, so many physical and terrifying quirks. As I doctor I see them all and they never get less scary. In fact each time I see another person with any quirk the more I learn the more I fear what the world will or can become." He hands the sample things to the nurse. "In this world not everything is as simple as stand up for yourself and fight back. Even the strongest get caught of guard or reckless. This world isn't what it used to be crimes are a lot more high stake a simple robbery can turn into a murder. What I'm trying to say no matter the legal outcome of this whatever happened to you isn't your fault. I don't care about any of the what ifs, I should haves, and I could haves your brain can come up with. It's not your fault. It wasn't the clothes on your back, it wasn't the alcohol you drank, and it sure as hell wasn't the drugs you took. It was the person who chose to take advantage of someone while they were vulnerable because they didn't have half the guts you have."
"How do I have guts? I was too scared of leaving because I'd become a social outcast?"
"You told someone. Someone who was able to get you here and tested. There are so many other victims of this that I see that never came forward. I have family who experienced terrible things and never said anything until it all became too much and they snapped. It doesn't make it any less valid but when people like you come forward you show people like you in your situation that it's okay to come forward."
"But what if nothing comes of this and I become the kid who ruined his friends life?"
"Young man, there have been plenty of false accusations against that's just how some people are but if your so called friend is dumb enough to throw away a friendship in one of the worst ways imaginable they dug that grave. You just turned that unmarked grave into a marked one. Here are some resources you can reach out for. Not just for your assault but also your drug problem. The first step of recovery is admitting you have a problem and you did that today. I don't see that often but when I do I have a high respect for them."
"How long will the results take?"
"They'll be done shortly."
"Don't you have other patients?"
"When I'm working this shift not usually so I tend to stay with a patient until we get their results or another patient comes in."
"What made you become a doctor?"
"I lost my parents at a young age. I don't know what happened because they surrendered me to their friends when I was born and they moved when I was three but just knowing I could help people in a time of need or desperation like I can assure my parents were in made it worth it. Plus me and my brother used to play doctor all the time until he moved. We used to put band-aids on my dads or give them ice packs. There was one time we found a huge roll of gauze and wrapped it around my one dad's leg. It was something I fondly remember. At some point when I was six my dads adopted a little girl and I picked up playing doctor with her."
"I have the results sir. We tested against his dna just like you told us." The doctor looks over the papers he was handed.
"Drug test?" The nurse hands him another paper. The doctor reads that too. "Thank you. Alright Yuma. The dna found on your groin doesn't match yours and looks to be female. As does some of the dna in your undergarments. You are still heavily under the influence so there is no way even now you could legally consent. The next steps we can take with this information is to one press charges two file a restraining order and keep you away from the assailant or three which I personally would advise against is do nothing." Enji looks to me and holds my hand in both of his very very warm hands.
"It's up to you Bubba's I can't make this choice for you."
"What would happen with each option?"
"With one and two we would have to report it regardless but you would tell them what you would want to do. If you press charges there will be a lot of questions they will probably come back and ask the same questions as well as other new questions that might help the investigation. Find any evidence to place you and the perpetrator in the same place at the same time. Gather witnesses as well so anyone you know the names of that were there possibly I'd heavily recommend telling them. There will probably be a trial if the detectives feel you have a solid case. Court will be really tough but if it goes well it will be well worth it." I nod. "With the restraining I'm not fully aware of the process."
"What do you think will happen if I go with the third option."
"In all honesty if you were friends with that person I'd hope you'd cut all contact with them immediately. If you go to the same school I wish you luck. It could be really really difficult but than again all these options are difficult. This person was somebody you thought you could trust no matter what you do I heavily recommend getting into therapy when you are ready. Do you know what you would like to do or would you like to go home and-."
"Press charges." The doctor looks a little taken aback by the suddenness of my answer. "I saw what doing nothing did to my bio dad. I'm not going to let it eat away at me like he did. If there's one thing he taught me it was always fight for yourself."
"Alright then get dress and I'll call the proper authorities."
