Whatever Severus Snape was expecting, it was not that

Whatever Severus Snape was expecting, it was not that. The girl was not what he was expecting. He was expecting a rude, obnoxious, spoilt princess that had everything handed to her. But what he got was worse than anything he ever imagined. He was not expecting Yasmine Potter, the bain of his existence, and girl-who-lived, to be living in a filthy, run-down orphanage that looked as if it were to collapse at any given moment.

When he had walked into the orphanage to explain to the girl how to get to Diagon Alley and what Hogwarts actually was – he was unsurprised when the matron told him to be wary of the child and that there have been a few incidences with other the children. Of course, he thought, the girl is just like her father. However, when he entered her room, he was surprised to see a hauntingly beautiful girl sitting on her bed, waiting for him with an angelic look on her face – that he would have believed if not for the matron's warnings ringing in his head. The war may be over, but one does not get rid of such habits.

A clash of emerald and obsidian met, one calm with insanity hidden deep within them, and the other, shocked with bitterness creeping in and filling the ball. Obsidian quickly looked away and started speaking, while emerald watched with curiosity and amusement.

The whole time he was talking, she didn't interrupt, she just listened quietly, an eager look in her eyes, soaking up all the new information.

He was staggered when she didn't react much to him telling her the truth about her parents. He was expecting her to be upset and maybe a bit angry, but she just sat there and took it all in quietly. Of course, he wasn't a complete idiot and saw a small storm brewing in her eyes, but he wasn't quite sure about which piece of information caused it.

Asking to go to Diagon Alley by herself and just be given the directions made the warning bells in his head go off again, and he hesitated. But it was true – he had better things to do. Giving in, he gave her the directions and went on his way.

Leaving the orphanage gave him a huge sense of relief, but he still felt the sensation of millions of eyes watching him; it creeped him out, making him want to leave as fast and as far as possible.

Arriving at Hogwarts, he immediately hurried to the Headmaster's office – all the while cursing Minerva for making him be the one to explain the wizarding world to Yasmine Potter – which she should already know of!

"You told me she was safe!" he spat as he barged into Dumbledore's office, startling the old man who seemed to have been inspecting something closely. "How dare you lie to me, old man!"

However, Dumbledore calmly crossed his arms with a confused expression, unaffected by his dramatic and unexpected entrance, "I am afraid, my boy, I have no idea what you are talking about."

Snape's skin turned red, unlike his usual sallow pale skin. And he had to stop himself from violently smacking the Headmaster. "Yasmine Potter." Was all he said, and Dumbledore started to pale, "An orphanage, really, Albus? An orphanage? You said she was safe! Being spoilt by the people looking after her." A fool. A fool is what he has been, too blind to see that Albus has obviously been lying to him and everyone else for the past decade. Severus silently prayed that Lily wouldn't be too mad at him. He's failed her memory and legacy.
