"Yeah Mom, I am on the way," I assured my mother, explaining how our little study session took a bit more time than usual. Ending the call, I let out a sigh. Gazing upward, I was met by a vast darkness where the moon shone as the solitary luminary in the sky, casting its ethereal glow across the night.
Yet, amidst the silence of the night, a melody danced in the air, one that stirred a peculiar familiarity within me. Enchanted by its allure, I found myself following the haunting tune to its source.
My mother's lesson about 'never to enter alleys at night' was constantly ringing in the back of my head. But the melody's pull was too strong to resist.
With hesitant steps, I ventured deeper into the alley, nervousness mingling with curiosity. Eventually, the source of the music revealed the weathered library. Its exterior spoke of years past, inviting yet mysterious.
Pushing open the creaky wooden door, I stepped into the library's dimly lit interior. The librarian's desk stood unattended, leaving the place eerily silent. Rows of bookshelves towered around me, holding untold tales within their embrace.
I extended my hand towards a weathered book, its cover worn and its pages yellowed with age. As I flipped through the first few pages, a faint unease crept over me, amplified by the eerie silence of the old library.
I was already terrified at the thought of encountering a ghost, and that fear intensified when a door creaked somewhere in the library. The book slipped from my grasp, and I hastily stooped to retrieve it, my hand trembling as I hurriedly returned it to its shelf.
My heart pounded in my chest as I hastened toward the exit, only to be confronted by the one person I least wanted to encounter. He stood there, casually dressed in a white shirt and loose-fitting black pants, his hair falling effortlessly over his forehead. His array of piercings glistened under the dim light, adding to his mischievous aura.
"Studying up late to outsmart me in the exams, princess?" His voice carried a teasing tone as he shoved his hands into his pockets, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Studying hard to make sure I stay a step ahead of your mediocrity," I said, making my way toward the exit.
"Yeah, sure." He chuckled.
I hurried towards home, feeling the rush of fresh air against my skin, but sensing him trailing behind me. I quickened my steps, hoping to outpace that annoying creature.
"Shoo away before I kick your ass," I muttered, striding down the street.
"Don't pretend you don't enjoy my company," he retorted, shadowing my steps.
"Says who?" I halted abruptly, shooting a challenging look at him.
"Says me," he chuckled, his tone smug enough to pull my hair in frustration.
"That library wasn't there a few days ago," I remarked pointedly to change the topic.
"I wouldn't know much about the library scene-I'm not the kind of person who spends late nights there plotting to outsmart someone, you know."
"Then why were you even in the library?" I asked, waiting for his explanation.
He paused for a moment, a sly grin emerging on his face. "My gut feeling told me you were there, ready to be annoyed by me," he said, earning a playful hit from me.
As I finally reached my house, a surge of relief coursed through me. Disregarding his faint 'bye,' I gripped the doorknob, swinging the door open, eager to escape the incessant banter.
My mom, her face etched with lines of worry, paced anxiously in the living room. Upon seeing me, her eyes lit up, a mixture of relief and concern. "Your Dad's still not home," she murmured, her voice tinged with a familiar tone of unease."

Yena found herself on the riverbank, surrounded by a night sky adorned with stars, the moon casting its glow like cosmic sprinkles. A soft smile played on her lips, accompanied by a sweet melody that seemed to embrace the ethereal scene. Intrigued, she followed the music until it led her to an unexpected sight.
In the distance, a silhouette of a couple caught her attention. Their embrace seemed to be under the moon's gentle halo, casting an enchanting glow.
Drawing closer, the moonlight revealed them more clearly. The man's back faced Yena, allowing her to focus on the female figure. The lady adorned a gown from a time long past, adding a touch of vintage elegance to her appearance.
As Yena approached, a sinking feeling gripped her stomach. The lady bore an uncanny resemblance to herself, dark raven hair falling over closed eyes in the embrace of a man.
Compelled, Yena reached out, attempting to bridge the gap between her reality and the haunting vision. Their fingers brushed briefly, and then the entire scene dissolved into a blur of shadows and light, leaving only a lingering sense of darkness.
Jolting awake, Yena muttered to herself, "Not that dream again." The remnants of the dream lingered, connecting her to a sense of longing.
Glancing at the clock, which displayed 2:34 in the quiet night, she felt a thirst for water. Making her way to the kitchen, she pulled open the refrigerator door, retrieved a water bottle, and took a refreshing gulp, feeling the chilled water burn gently in her throat.
