I trudged slowly down the muddy footpath. Thunder rumbled violently as the rain suddenly came tumbling down. Vivid forks of the lightning lit up the sky. The rain poured onto my face.
It was this kind of weather when...tears filled my eyes. Don't think about it!
Cautiously, I knocked on the door. Loud banging thudded towards me. The door jerked open, revealing a nice looking lady.
"Hi! You must be Minhee! I'm Emily and I'm your new mother!" she exclaimed happily. "Well, come on in! It's freezing out there!" I nodded silently, following her into the room.
"Minhee...?"
I ran across the room. "Yes mother? Is anything wrong?"
"I...I have something to tell you..."
Worry filled me. What's wrong with her?
"I...only have 2 weeks to live...I have cancer...the doctor said...I was too late...there's no cure..." she burst into tears, crumpling onto the floor.
I gripped the table next to me. What? I shook uncontrollably. This can't be happening. Thunder roared outside and rain rattled on our window. I walked towards my weak mother and held her in my arms...
- 2 weeks -
She gasped and struggled to breathe. I knew her time was nearly up.
"Mother..."
She blinked and smiled at me gently. She lifted her hand and reached out for my hand.
"Minhee..."
I choked on my tears. This can't be happening. I grasped at the hospital bed sheets. This isn't fair! If anyone should die, it should be that bastard!
I kneeled in front of her grave. Her smiling face flashed across my mind. My head spun. My world was suddenly black. What's happening to me?
I slumped down onto the bed. I stared at the girly pink bed sheets with disgust. The room was decorated like a princess' room. It wasn't my style. My black suitcase stood out like an alien. This is not what I want.
Outside, the rain continued to fall. I went into the bathroom and looked at my reflection. A wet angry looking girl stared back at me. Her long brown hair flopped onto her shoulders, like a shaggy dog. She wore jeans and a navy blue hoodie with no fashion sense at all. She watched me with her strange fierce purple eyes. I narrowed my eyes. The girl glared back. This is me.
