SUMMARY: Dabi isn't just using you, right...? He does love you... At least, you think he does. But right now, you aren't even sure.
WORD COUNT: 1.3k
WARNINGS: Dabi awkwardly comforting you, you feeling like you're being used, Dabi breaking a door, Toga being an annoying little sister.
A/N: Inspired by the song above <3
You never knew why you had even got with Dabi in the first place. You knew it was a bad idea, especially since he was such a wanted villain... But something about him drew him to you. You weren't sure what exactly, but... Still.
You let out a soft sigh, flinching slightly as you heard the banging on the door. Your arms wrapped around yourself, trying to hug yourself to gain even the littlest bit of comfort.
You wanted him to wrap his arms around you, and hold you close... So why were you the one shutting him out and not allowing him to enter? Well, simple. You heard him talking with the other members of the League of Villains about utilizing your quirk, and from the way they were talking, they'd talked about this before.
You weren't exactly unhappy that you were being kept here. Yeah, you didn't get to go outside that often, and you had to admit you sometimes wanted to talk to your other friends, and not just stick with the villains. Not to mention you were getting bored of getting sent out only for errands, like they were just trying to use you. Still, this was the only way you could stay with Dabi full time, so it was bearable. Well, at least you thought it was.
You let out a soft whimper, cringing in on yourself as you heard the small noise that you had grown to associate with Dabi's quirk. He must be burning the door down. Great.
Dabi didn't know what was wrong with you. You walked in to the meeting he and the other League of Villains were in, sobbing and talking unintelligibly before storming off to your room. At the looks from the others, as well as a soft snicker from Toga, he walked after you to try to see what was wrong.
And now he was stuck outside, his pounding on the door only met by soft sobs. He gradually grew more panicked; why were you crying so much? It wasn't like he'd hurt you—at least he didn't think he did—and he wasn't forcing you to do anything. So why...?
So, finally, he was forced to burn down the door. It was fine, you could go buy a door for them, anyways, right?
He watched you, frown growing on his lips as he did so. He walked a bit closer, freezing as you flinched away. He forced his voice to be softer, calmer as he crouched down, asking what was wrong. When he was met with a small shake of your head, he sighed again before getting up, slowly walking toward you and grabbing your wrists.
"[Y/N]-chan, I don't know what's wrong unless you tell me. So, please..." He rubbed your wrists a little, trying to calm you down, which worked somewhat.
You let out a small sniffle before finally starting to speak. "Y-you're just using me..." You mumbled, fiddling with your hands a bit. "A-and... And you probably never even loved me..."
Dabi blinked. Where had that come from? Him, just using you? And not loving you? He let out a soft snort, rolling his eyes. "Why'd you think that? Don't be so stupid, [Y/N]-chan." You cringed back as he reached toward you.
"But... That, that meeting... You were talking about using my quirk..." You paused for a moment. "And, you've been just keeping me here unless there's an advantage for you... I barely get to go outside, I can't be on my phone, I can't even talk to my friends..." Your head drooped. "I don't think I can cope with this anymore... I'm only human, Dabi, you can't make me stay here with minimal human interaction..."
Dabi's eyes widened slightly. That was how you'd felt this whole time...? He hadn't known, else he'd have done more for you to make you happier. He didn't like the thought he had now, that you were just smiling to make him happy, and you weren't happy yourself.
He let out a soft sigh before holding his arms out, biting his lip when you didn't come closer, like you usually did. "I promise I do love you, [Y/N], and I'm sorry I made you feel that way. I didn't mean to make you feel alone, I swear." He paused. "And, I just... Wanted to think that I was enough for you. Which is probably a stupid thought, I know." He rolled his eyes with a soft snort. "But, really, you don't need to worry, I promise." He smiled gently at you.
You weren't sure, but you slowly moved closer to him, sitting on his lap and wrapping your arms around him, nuzzling in to him slightly. You felt his arms gently wrap around you, a comforting presence. You were still shaking ever so slightly, but the warmth that radiated from him, as well as the gentle flames that were playing over your skin, soon made you stop. You were warmed up a lot as well.
Dabi ran a hand through your hair gently, holding you close. "Well... We can go outside later, just you and me. No errands. Just, enjoy the fresh air. And, I'll get you a new phone... You can talk to your friends, just don't say anything about the League, mkay?" He kissed your forehead, rubbing your back a little bit more.
You nodded a little. "Okay... I promise I won't talk about you guys." You played with his hair a bit. "And, are you going to take advantage of my quirk...?"
"No, I promise we won't. I won't let them. I don't want you to get involved and get hurt, either... If you're captured, I don't know if I'd be able to get you back." He nuzzled in to you a bit, grip on you increasing slightly. He really didn't want to lose you. You were the one static thing in his life, and he didn't want that to change.
"Mkay... If you do need my quirk, though, let me join in the discussion. I don't want all of you making decisions that involve me." You nudged him gently.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." A soft huff escaped him, rolling his eyes. "I still wouldn't like it."
"I know you wouldn't. But, I still want to do something to help. Well, as long as it isn't too dangerous." You let out a soft sigh. "I just- don't want to feel like you're making all the decisions for me, like I can't do anything, and like I don't have opinions and thoughts about what I do want to do."
Dabi grumbled a little, clearly not liking this, but he relented. He wanted you to be happy, after all. And he didn't like the thought of taking advantage of you... It made him feel almost like his father, in a way, which he didn't like. It wasn't even similar, really, but still... He knew he had to be a good partner. Gentle flames flickered over your body, warming you up a bit more. "Well, what do you want to do now...?"
"Well, spend time with you, I guess." You smiled a little bit more, nuzzling in to his touch. "You're so soft with me..."
"Hush."
You laughed a bit more, humming softly to yourself as you played with his hair, knowing that you'd enjoy this day more than any others.
BONUS (mostly because I couldn't resist-):
Toga was silently listening in to the conversation (thanks to the thin walls), smiling happily as she did so. What a cute couple. She let out a soft laugh before pulling away, skipping a bit as she went to the rest of the League of Villains to tell them what had happened between you two. Of course she wasn't going to let the guy who she thought of as her brother get away with being so soft to you. It would be interesting to see how flustered the two of you would get, anyway.
